Former first lady Michelle Obama is “terrified” of the upcoming presidential election and what it could mean, sharing that the very idea of who could be leading the country keeps her up at night.
The wife of former President Barack Obama spoke on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast about what keeps her “up at night,” expressing fears over things like wars, artificial intelligence, and the prospect of “who holds that bully pulpit,” in what was likely a suggestion of former President Trump being re-elected.
In one breath, Obama lamented the threat to “democracy” while declaring that the government does “everything” for us.

“What keeps you up at night?” Shetty asked the former first lady.
“What keeps me up are the things that I know: The war in the region, in too many regions. What is AI going to do for us? The environment, you know, are we moving at all fast enough?” she replied.
“What are we doing about education? Are people going to vote? And, why aren’t people voting? Are we too stuck to our phones?” Obama continued.
“I mean, these are the things that keep me up, because you don’t have control over them, and you wonder, where are people, where are we in this, where are our hearts? What’s going to happen in this next election?” she laid d out dramatically.
“I am terrified about what could possibly happen. Because our leaders matter. Who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit. It affects us in ways that, sometimes I think people take it for granted,” Obama continued her fear-mongering.
“You know, the fact that people think that government — “eh, does it really even do anything?” — And I’m like, oh my God, does government do everything for us, and we cannot take this democracy for granted,” she added in a telling remark. “And sometimes, I worry that we do. Those are the things that keep me up.”
Her comments came in the wake of similar fears by her husband in a Wall Street Journal report expressing he was “worried” about Trump’s alleged threat to democracy as President Joe Biden’s poll numbers continue to tank.
Obama’s very telling remarks sparked heated responses on social media where many unpacked the meaning behind her words and some suggested this is the run-up to Democrats presenting her as a candidate.
“When govt does everything for you, the govt is your master. That is slavery,” wrote David Asman, anchor for Fox Business and Fox News. “And that is her vision.”
The fact that he said “government does everything for us” should tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

She said the quiet part out loud:
“These are the things that keep me up because you don’t have **control** over them.”

She should be terrified about what has happened to this country over the last few years, and what will happen if democrats remain in power.
