Jonathan Turley says Fani Willis and Nathan Wade’s case against Trump is ‘unraveling’

by

Daily Caller News Foundation

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley asserted on Tuesday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade’s election interference case against former President Donald Trump is falling apart.

A judge recently held a hearing to determine whether Willis should be disqualified from her case against Trump over allegations she financially benefited by appointing Wade, her romantic partner. They both made seeming contradictions in their testimonies during the hearing, which Turley said on “Fox and Friends” damages their prosecution against Trump.

“Now, the Willis team kept on preventing questions from the opposing counsel, who is trying to show that it was in fact this attorney that supported their original motion that this relationship began long before Nathan Wade was hired. Now, whether we’re going to finally see those questions answered is something we will be watching closely today, but the case seems to be unraveling for Willis and Wade,” Turley said.

“In their testimony, there was a great deal of contradiction, particularly for Mr. Wade. Some of his earlier sworn statements appear to be irreconcilable with the facts that he later testified to,” he continued. “That’s a nice way of saying that people believe he may have lied under the earlier sworn statement. That’s pretty serious because these two are prosecuting people for making false statements and filing false papers with courts.”

WATCH:

Trump co-defendant Michael Roman alleged in a Jan. 8 motion that Willis and Wade’s relationship began before the district attorney appointed him to the Trump case, but both of them denied it in testimony and court filings. Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee on Monday ordered Wade’s former law partner to testify about the special prosecutor’s relationship with Willis, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Willis and Wade could face charges for perjury if the allegations turn out to be true and “could be referred to the bar,” Turley asserted.

Both Willis and Wade testified that the special prosecutor never stayed the night at her condo, but phone records referenced in a Friday court filing appear to reveal he visited her neighborhood at least 35 times in 2021.
