New narrative, ‘white rural voters are a threat to American democracy,’ is ‘most racist diatribe I’ve ever heard in my life’

MSNBC ignited backlash when two guests demonized “white rural” American voters as a “threat to democracy.”

Monday’s edition of “Morning Joe” featured Tom Schaller, a professor of political science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and journalist Paul Waldman who highlighted their new book, “White Rural Rage.”

Schaller spewed about “the fourfold interconnected threat that white rural voters pose to the country,” and claimed this demographic is “the most anti-gay, xenophobic in the country. QAnon support and subscribers, COVID denialism, Obama birtherism.”

“They don’t believe in an independent press, free speech. They’re most likely to say the president should be backed unilaterally without checks from the courts, and the strongest white Christian nationalists,” Schaller said in his eyebrow-raining claims. “Fourth, they’re most likely to excuse or justify violence as acceptable.”

“These guys are complete assholes,” investigative journalist Lara Logan said simply in responding to the video on X.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA delivered a synopsis of the radical message the duo was unloading on MSNBC viewers.

Schaller even told “Morning Joe” that the “poorer infrastructure” and “a lack of economic opportunity” in America’s rural areas is part of the problem.

“That kind of left them open to someone like Donald Trump who would come along and tell them something that was true, that there is a system that has not served them well,” Schaller said.

“They’re pissed off,” Waldman added.

Social media users exploded over the duo’s remarks.
