Democrats panicking over President vJoe Biden’s re-election prospects have gone over the edge in their creative solutions to oust him from the party ticket.
One such plan that even involves Taylor Swift was proposed by two “well connected” Democrats who believe a “blitz primary” could provide a way to ensure Biden is not the party’s 2024 nominee, according to Semafor.
Georgetown law professor and former Obama administration staffer Rosa Brooks joined venture capitalist and Democratic donor Ted Dintersmit in crafting a memo to donors proposing a month-long primary featuring six candidates chosen by party delegates who will pick the eventual nominee before the start of the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19.
Part of the plan includes forums with the potential candidates which could be moderated by the likes of Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and even Taylor Swift. The eventual winner “would be announced with plenty of fanfare on the third day of the gathering. The memo imagines the nominee unveiled on stage with Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton,” according to Semafor.
Brooks claimed the plan, which requires candidates to pledge to run a positive campaign. has had “near-universal support,” according to Semafor.
“We can limp to shameful, avoidable democracy-ending defeat,” the memo notes. “Or Democrats can make this Our Finest Hour.”
“In the midst of malaise and crisis, we can forge an uplifting path,” Dintersmith told Semafor.
But the plan also requires Biden to voluntarily step down, something the president has not been willing to do.
“I’m not letting one 90-minute debate wipe out three and a half years of work. I’m staying in the race, and I will beat Donald Trump,” he said last week in Wisconsin.
