Charlamagne sounds alarm on Harris losing ‘close’ election due to ducking ‘press’

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God warned Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris’ press-ducking strategy could result in an electoral victory for former President Donald Trump.

Harris has thus far only given one sit-down interview during her 2024 presidential campaign, which she launched on July 21. Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” said Harris should be engaging with the media more if she wants to energize voters who are not Democrats, noting the election will be a “close” one.

“This whole election is interesting ’cause it’s going to be close come November. I like how the vice president is hitting the ground and speaking to people in these battleground states. But I do feel like I think she does need to do more outreach in the press,” Charlamagne said. “‘Cause I believe it’s a lot of excitement within the party and in like that blue bubble, but she gotta excite the folks outside of that bubble because I don’t want this to be one of those elections where she wins the popular vote but loses the electoral college vote.”

Harris included her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in her only interview, which was with CNN’s Dana Bash and lasted just under half an hour. Bash initially asked what the vice president would accomplish on her first day as president should she win the election, with Harris saying she would “strengthen the middle class,” but neglecting to go into detail.

NBC News national political correspondent Steve Kornacki said on Tuesday that Harris’ narrow polling advantage over Trump may be insufficient to win the electoral college as the former president exceeded polling expectations in both 2016 and 2020.

“Take a look here at the last two elections, 2020, 2016, the polling at this point coming out of Labor Day, beginning the fall rush,” Kornacki told host Ana Cabrera. “In 2016, Hillary Clinton led on average by five points. Of course, Donald Trump won in 2016. And Joe Biden had an even bigger lead on average, Labor Day 2020. Donald Trump didn’t win that election, but certainly in the electoral college, he came this close to doing so, Ana. So Trump has run from behind before, certainly.”

Charlamagne in May would not endorse President Joe Biden when he was campaigning for a second presidential term, but declared he “absolutely would endorse” Harris when the president dropped out and endorsed her in July.
