Radio host and author James Golden defended Elon Musk’s right to use “his own money” in campaigning for former President Donald Trump, dismissing claims of “dark money” flowing into the Republican campaign.
The talk radio producer also known as Bo Snerdley to legions of fans who tune in to his daily 4 pm WABC radio show (archived on thedailybs.com) spoke with News Nation about Musk’s offer to give away $1 million a day to swing-state voters who defend free speech.
“Every day, from now through Nov 5, @America PAC will be giving away $1M to someone in swing states who signed our petition to support free speech & the right to bear arms! We want to make sure that everyone in swing states hears about this and I suspect this will ensure they do,” the billionaire posted on his social media platform.
When asked by News Nation host Markie Martin about Musk’s latest effort, Golden praised it as a “fabulous” idea.
“Elon Musk is a private citizen. He has earned the money that he’s spending, it’s his money, he can spend it,” the longtime Rush Limbaugh producer replied, noting that Musk is promoting free speech with his move that asks voters to sign his PAC petition backing the First and Second Amendments of the U.S. Constitution
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro reacted to Musk’s announcement by saying “it’s something that law enforcement could take a look at,” warning of the flow of “dark money.”
“No, this is not ‘dark money’ as he says, this is his money and he’s free to spend it however he wants,” Golden said, noting that the federal government under President Joe Biden “has funneled billions of dollars to NGO’s which in turn funnel that money to left-wing activists.”
If there’s something to look at that, that’s something to look at. A private citizen spending his own money on issues that he cares about, issue advocacy is part of the political system,” he continued.
Golden thought Musk’s move would be “money well spent” if it “generates the kind of publicity that encourages people to get out and register.”
“You’re looking at a battleground state where in some counties this election might be decided by a few thousand votes. If it turns out that those few thousand votes are what takes Donald Trump over the top in Pennsylvania, it’s money well spent,” he said, noting the cost of advertising dollars spent on media. “It’s a wise investment, actually.”
