Outrage ensued after a leaked message revealed an alleged plan by Sen. Mitch McConnell to get in the way of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominations.
New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer posted then deleted a post on social media about how the outgoing Senate Minority Leader planned to sabotage Trump’s agenda. Others on X soon began to circulate the report after Mayer wrote on Sunday: “Message to Trump Team: ‘There will be no recess appointments’ Sen. Mitch McConnell said tonight at a Washington gathering,”
Seems Jane Mayer was the only original source for the quote.
Did McConnell deny it?

Some pointed out that something “sketchy” had happened as Sen. Mike Lee of Utah asked why the post was taken down.
Any idea why the original post was deleted? https://t.co/sDfk1wO25M

Sen. Rick Scott was among the many who clapped back at the idea of McConnell trying to insert himself into the incoming Trump administration.
Yes, there will be. https://t.co/wn8EzfnKHr

“Remember that time when McConnell decided he wouldn’t be speaking for Senate Republicans anymore?” Sen. Lee wrote in another post.
Over the weekend, incoming Senate GOP leader John Thune reiterated the need to get Trump’s nominations cleared, even if that means recess appointments which bypass Senate confirmation hearings.
“One thing is clear: We must act quickly and decisively to get the president’s Cabinet and other nominees in place as soon as possible to start delivering on the mandate we’ve been sent to execute, and all options are on the table to make that happen, including recess appointments,” the South Dakota Republican said.
Pushing for timely confirmations, and needed recess appointments to achieve that, Trump had written on Truth Social: “Sometimes the votes can take two years, or more. This is what they did four years ago, and we cannot let it happen again.”
“We need positions filled IMMEDIATELY!” he added.
The post alleging McConnel’s plot to derail Trump’s nominations caused an uproar in MAGA world.
JUST IN: The New Yorker report Mitch McConnell sent a message to Trump: “There will be no recess appointments.”
McConnell may not be aware, but he’s no longer in charge of the Senate.
But let’s take Mitch at his word. Any Republican who defies President-elect Trump’s nominees…

Nobody now in Washington, including elected Democrats, has caused more lasting damage to the conservative cause than Mitch McConnell. https://t.co/JQkUqcDvXq

Mitch McConnell says there will be no “recess appointments” for Trump.
Openly attempting to block Trump’s cabinet picks.
I wonder how much money this old man has laundered and stolen from the American people over the years?
Guess we should check into that. pic.twitter.com/5h7u9pocQN

The faster Mitch McConnell leaves Washington, D.C. the better it is for our country.

This old geyser must be confused. He seems to think he is still relevant and powerful 😂

Mitch McConnell is a never Trumper who has more allegiance to the CCP than the US. He has been an impediment to Trump’s success for 9 years.
He is the poster child for term limits— ❌Skibum (@heliski777) November 18, 2024
Who the hell does Mitch McConnell think he is? We didn’t vote for him. And Trump has the power. Not Congress. Mitch can go to hell.
