Pam Bondi sends ‘clear’ message to sanctuary cities choosing ‘illegal aliens’ over Americans

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared on Fox News Thursday to send a clear message to sanctuary cities choosing to protect “illegal aliens” over Americans, saying there will be legal repercussions for those not following the law.

Just two days after Bondi was confirmed as the new Trump administration’s attorney general, the Florida native ordered the Department of Justice to pull funding from sanctuary cities and launched an investigation into the funding of organizations that have been aiding illegal migrants. Bondi appeared on “Hannity” for her first exclusive interview with Fox’s Sean Hannity since stepping into the position.

“You’ve cracked down on sanctuary cities. The DOJ has put a pause on all federal funding to sanctuary cities and states. You filed a lawsuit against Chicago and the state of Illinois for being a sanctuary city. Am I wrong in my interpretation that a sanctuary city is aiding and abetting and law-breaking?” Hannity asked.

“Sean, what they’re doing is they are choosing illegal aliens over the safety and security of their own citizens and the men and women of law enforcement who are out there trying to protect their citizens,” Bondi said. “Not only did we sue today the City of Chicago, we sued the state of Illinois, we sued the mayor, we sued the governor, and we sued others. And let me be very clear, if you don’t comply with federal law, you’re going to be next.”

WATCH:

A lawsuit filed by the Trump administration on Thursday hit Chicago, Cook County, and the state of Illinois over their sanctuary policies, which they argue is an “intentional effort to obstruct the Federal Government’s enforcement of federal immigration law and to impede consultation and communication between federal, state, and local law enforcement officials that is necessary for federal officials to carry out federal immigration law and keep Americans safe.”

Following President Donald Trump’s win in November, Democrats and organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union said they could potentially push back against the president’s mass deportation plan. Democrats like Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston vowed to push back against the plans, with the Denver official saying that local police and residents will not assist in the deportation process.

Despite the attempts to thwart Trump’s plan, border czar Tom Homan has pushed through in leading the charge, with Trump reversing Biden-Harris administration policies, allowing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to arrest “criminal aliens,” including rapists and murderers.

In addition to Bondi, both Homan and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have warned lawmakers and officials in sanctuary cities who are attempting to dismantle their plans. Noem said during a Fox News interview on Jan. 31 that she will continue “to go in and use our operations and then show in other cities how it’s working and tell our story to the American people.”
