The Art of the Deal! Trump reveals details of big win-win trade deal with UK

by

The stock market lit up after President Donald Trump announced a major trade deal with the United Kingdom.

“The S&P 500 added about 51 points, or 0.9%, near 5,682, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 391 points, about 1%, to trade near 41,505. The Nasdaq jumped 218 points, nearly 1.2%, at about 17,956,” USA Today reported after the historic deal was announced.

Since the president’s “Liberation Day” tariffs were revealed weeks ago, he has indicated that many nations have been negotiating with the administration. On Friday, Trump announced a “bigger, better, stronger deal” for the U.S. and U.K. “than we ever even contemplated before.”

“Today, on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day for World War II, President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a historic trade deal, providing American companies unprecedented access to the UK markets while bolstering U.S. national security. This is a great deal for America,” a White House fact sheet noted.

“This morning, I’m thrilled to announce that we have reached a breakthrough trade deal with the United Kingdom – incredible country,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “Today is a Victory Day for World War II – we won the war together exactly 80 years ago, so there could be no more perfect morning to reach this historic agreement.”

“Today’s agreement with the UK is the first in a series of agreements on trade that my administration has been negotiating for the past four weeks,” the president added.

“The deal includes billions of dollars of increased market access for American exports, especially in agriculture, dramatically increasing access for American beef, ethanol, and virtually all of the products produced by our great farmers,” Trump said, according to the White House. “The UK will reduce or eliminate numerous non-tariff barriers that unfairly discriminated against American products.”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has been negotiating with the administration for weeks, was not in Washington, D.C., but held a press conference in Britain to announce the news and join Trump virtually.

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick noted that the UK will be purchasing $10 billion worth of Boeing planes.
