Republicans made history in Florida this week as they flipped the once Democratic stronghold of Miami-Dade County red for the first time.
“Republicans made up 464,370 voters, or 34 percent of voters, in the county, while Democrats made up 440,790 voters, or 32.27 percent. Voters classified as ‘others’ made up 460,783 voters, or 33.73 percent,” The Hill reported Monday.
“Miami-Dade County has completed its off-year voter roll maintenance, and this morning, it shed 172,747 voters from its active rolls,” according to Decision Desk HQ’s director of data science, Michael Pruser. “The change netted Republicans more than 38,000 voters compared to Democrats, and the county has now flipped to Republican by registration. Today marks Republicans’ first-ever lead in voter registration in Miami-Dade.”

President Trump flipped Miami-Dade County in November’s election, the first Republican to do so in over three decades. Back in his first race in 2016, Hillary Clinton had come away with the victory in the South Florida county. Republicans now have the majority in 59 of Florida’s 67 counties.
“From Rubio to DeSantis to Trump, this victory is a testament to the strength of Republican leadership and grassroots power. What was once blue is now a blazing red fortress—and we’re charging toward an even brighter future!” Florida’s Republican Party said in a statement.

The Sunshine State’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis also celebrated.
“A decade ago Miami-Dade county was a deep blue county with hundreds of thousands more registered Democrats than Republicans,” he posted on X. “Today, the county — with more than 2.8 million people — has a Republican voter registration advantage. Nobody would have predicted this ten years ago.”
