If the allegations prove to be true, what is the legal process by which a former president may face trial and possible conviction? Since a former president still maintains the title and is addressed as Mr. (Ms. or Madam) President following his or her tenure in office, would he or she still need to be impeached first, then face trial in the Senate, to be stripped of the title before facing criminal proceedings? Inasmuch as the allegations stem from O’Bama’s term in office, this begs the question concerning proper protocol.
