Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) recently appeared on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast, This Is Gavin Newsom, where she downplayed the vital role of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). During the interview, Crockett referred to ICE agents as little more than “fancy Uber drivers,” suggesting their primary responsibility should be transportation—not law enforcement.
“ICE for the most part is nothing but a ride,” Crockett claimed. “That’s all they were supposed to do for the most part, right? It’s like, you know what? This person is undocumented or this person re-enters the country illegally, all the things, and then they have an ICE hold, and then ICE gets them so that they can then send them out. That’s all ICE is supposed to do, look at them as a fancy Uber driver for immigrants.”
To characterize federal immigration agents—who put their lives on the line daily to secure our nation’s borders—as glorified chauffeurs not only insults the men and women who serve but also fundamentally misrepresents ICE’s legal mandate. ICE is tasked with enforcing immigration laws, detaining and deporting illegal aliens, dismantling human trafficking operations, and upholding national security. They are not, as Crockett implied, a taxpayer-funded shuttle service.
Rep. Crockett didn’t stop there. She referred to ICE as President Donald Trump’s “personal army” and implied that many of its agents are unqualified compared to other law enforcement.
“Now they’re running into places, doing raids, and they’re falling all over each other, injuring each other. Like we are a joke, but it is a bad nightmare of a joke. And so I don’t think that this president has any limits that he won’t go to,” she added, painting ICE enforcement actions as chaotic and clownish rather than essential.
Let’s be clear—ICE exists to enforce the law. Period. If someone enters the country illegally or commits immigration fraud, ICE is there to ensure consequences follow. Undermining that role, especially after the historic border crisis ushered in under President Biden, only emboldens cartels, traffickers, and those who abuse our immigration system.
The Texas congresswoman, known for her far-left views, also used the opportunity to lob tired partisan attacks at President Trump and his supporters. In a display of divisive rhetoric, she labeled MAGA supporters as the “most unpatriotic” Americans and bizarrely called for Democrats to “take the flag back.”
“I am telling you right now that the most unpatriotic people that we have in this country are MAGA and this president,” she said. “We are the real patriots. And it is time for us to take our flag back and show people what America is about.”
