Bongino fires back at Fox News for ‘garbage reporting’: ‘If Trump were unhappy, he’d just call me’

Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino didn’t mince words during his recent appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, where he forcefully rejected a Fox News report that claimed both he and Kash Patel were facing internal pressure from Trump-world insiders. Bongino, a strong ally of President Trump and a respected conservative voice, called the report nothing more than “garbage reporting” based on shaky, unnamed sources.

During the interview, host Megyn Kelly referenced a Fox News piece written by White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich, which alleged that Bongino’s position was in jeopardy and that Patel had lost the confidence of several key Trump associates. The report specifically named Pam Bondi and attorney Todd Blanche, suggesting they had serious concerns about Patel’s role and even quoted a source as saying, “Pam in particular cannot stand him. Blanche either.”

Additionally, the article claimed that Bongino’s own standing was tenuous, stating that “three sources” indicated his “days are more likely numbered than Patel’s,” citing tensions surrounding a fallout over the Jeffrey Epstein investigation and friction with Bondi. Fox even went as far as saying Bongino had “threatened to quit.”

Bongino, who left Fox News in 2023 and has since been a prominent supporter of Trump’s second-term agenda, immediately shot down the credibility of the piece. “Megyn, I don’t even—so just to be clear, I’ve read the report. I spoke to Jacqui,” he said. “Everyone on the record you just cited… said the exact opposite. You can read the report yourself.”

He went on to explain that the narrative pushed by the article was entirely based on off-the-record speculation from sources unwilling to attach their names to their claims—while everyone quoted on the record, including President Trump himself, denied any such problems.

“An off-the-record person who was not willing to put their name to any of this, who may not like what the director and I are doing here… said, ‘Wow, these guys are in a lot of trouble,’” Bongino explained. “On the record, everyone from the president to Todd to Pam to everyone else says the exact opposite.”

In a moment of plain-spoken common sense, Bongino pointed out the obvious flaw in the reporting: if Trump were actually upset with him or Patel, they’d hear about it directly from the president. “You and I have known the president a long time,” Bongino told Kelly. “You really believe the president’s not just gonna call? Do you think he’s the type to not call you?”

Kelly agreed, stating, “President Trump is not usually shy when he’s unhappy with a staffer.”

“Uh, no,” Bongino concluded with a grin, affirming that all is well inside Trump’s inner circle despite the media’s desperate attempts to stir up internal strife.
