In a move that practically demands a scratching post, the official Democrat Party X account posted a so-called “explainer” video using animated cartoon cats to discuss the looming government shutdown. Titled “Kitty Explains Government Shutdown,” the video is being torched online — not just by conservatives but by thousands of Democrats begging their own party to take it down.
“I haven’t cringed this hard since Kamala’s 2024 presidential campaign,” one user posted, echoing the sentiment of a growing digital dogpile.
Democrats, long known for tone-deaf digital messaging, have seemingly outdone themselves with this painfully awkward clip. If you thought the Hakeem Jeffries in a sombrero memes shared by Trump supporters triggered a meltdown at DNC HQ, you haven’t seen this latest furball of failure. Instead of responding with facts or a strong policy message, they responded with… cats.
Yes, this actually happened.

The video — still live on the Democrats’ X account as of this writing — is so embarrassingly off-key that even some progressives are asking, “Who approved this?” The Republican Party wasted no time pouncing on it, delivering a purrfect response that amplified the mockery tenfold.

The video attempts to spin the impending government shutdown as a purely Republican problem. In reality, the standoff is being driven by Senate Democrats’ refusal to negotiate in good faith with House Republicans, many of whom are demanding serious fiscal reforms to rein in runaway spending.
It’s not Republicans holding the budget hostage — it’s Democrats refusing to stop the financial hemorrhaging.
But instead of addressing that, the Democrats thought cartoons would do the trick. Apparently, they believe their base needs to be condescended to with feline animations and baby-voiced narration.
Political analyst reactions were swift — and merciless.
“This is insulting,” wrote one user. “Do they think voters are actual children?”
Another added, “This isn’t how you win hearts and minds. This is how you lose elections.”
The comment section on the Democrats’ post is a bloodbath. “I’ve never seen anything like that,” said one poster. “Every single comment is more brutal than the next.” Not exactly a sign of confidence heading into an election cycle.
This isn’t the first time Democrats have tripped over their own messaging. From Hillary’s “Pokemon Go to the Polls” moment to cringeworthy TikToks from Biden staffers, the left continues to struggle with authentic communication — especially online. It’s as if they’re trying to speak Gen Z’s language, but end up sounding like they Googled “how do fellow kids talk?”
What makes this cartoon especially galling is that it distracts from real issues — inflation, border chaos, crime waves — all while infantilizing the very voters Democrats claim to fight for.
At this point, it’s safe to say: the ability to meme is still far outside the reach of their paws.
