Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker made a tactical blunder this week when he tried to publicly ridicule Secretary of War Pete Hegseth—only to get slapped down with a response that not only highlighted the governor’s own shortcomings but put a spotlight on Chicago’s out-of-control crime epidemic.
Pete Hegseth was busy ignoring his job and doing pushups as part of a show for the Guinness Book of World Records while Illinoisans are being invaded by Trump’s military troops. https://t.co/4OpZHrmj8I

The confrontation came after President Trump deployed National Guard troops to several Democrat-run cities plagued by lawlessness, including the collapsing metropolis of Chicago. Unsurprisingly, the liberal media focused less on the National Guard’s efforts to restore order and more on Hegseth’s side participation in a Guinness World Record attempt—because heaven forbid a conservative shows commitment to both country and personal discipline.
Pritzker, always quick with the snide tweet and slow with actual results, took aim at Hegseth on X, writing:
“Pete Hegseth was busy ignoring his job and doing pushups as part of a show for the Guinness Book of World Records while Illinoisans are being invaded by Trump’s military troops.”
The irony was rich coming from a man who presides over one of America’s most dangerous cities—where, according to FBI Director Kash Patel, more than 110,000 gang members are currently active. That’s not a typo. One in every 24 residents in Chicago is affiliated with a gang. Yet Pritzker’s top concern appears to be Hegseth’s biceps.
Chicago, already buckling under the weight of failed progressive policies and violent crime, has also become a hotbed for illegal activity tied to sanctuary policies Pritzker refuses to abandon. One particularly grotesque case involves a Chinese national—living in the city illegally—who was recently indicted for running a multi-state human and sex trafficking operation. He acted as both a courier and recruiter, exploiting vulnerable women and turning Chicago into a hub of modern-day slavery.
All of this comes amid reports of ICE agents being harassed and attacked by far-left activists, while local law enforcement is told to stand down and watch. Pritzker remains silent on these real dangers but managed to find time to mock a military veteran for staying fit.
Hegseth, a combat veteran and public servant, wasted no time clapping back:
“Governor, you might try a pushup or two,” he wrote.
“In the meantime, our troops will do the job you refuse to do.”

It was a mic-drop moment that exposed Pritzker’s priorities—or lack thereof. As cities like Chicago spiral deeper into crime and chaos, Governor Pritzker continues to focus on Twitter dunks and virtue signals while doing little to protect his own constituents.
Meanwhile, Americans can rest a little easier knowing that while blue state politicians play games, real patriots like Hegseth and our troops are stepping up to do the job they won’t.
If the judges will let them, that is …
