Netflix is once again proving it’s more interested in pushing progressive narratives than entertaining its audience — or respecting America’s armed forces. The Pentagon isn’t having it.
Their latest series, Boots, debuted October 9 and immediately sparked backlash from military officials and conservative leaders. The show centers on a closeted gay teenager from Louisiana navigating the harsh realities of a 1990s Marine Corps boot camp — back when openly gay service members were barred under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
But the Pentagon isn’t clapping for the feel-good identity politics. Instead, officials slammed the series for peddling what they called “woke garbage” wrapped in a uniform.
“Under President Trump and Secretary [Pete] Hegseth, the U.S. military is getting back to restoring the warrior ethos,” said Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “Our standards across the board are elite, uniform, and sex-neutral because the weight of a rucksack or a human being doesn’t care if you’re a man, a woman, gay, or straight.”
Wilson didn’t hold back, accusing Netflix of consistently serving up politically correct entertainment disguised as storytelling. “We will not compromise our standards to satisfy an ideological agenda,” she added, “unlike Netflix, whose leadership consistently produces and feeds woke garbage to their audience and children.”
Boots, starring Miles Heizer (13 Reasons Why) and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), has climbed into Netflix’s Top 10 charts, proving once again that controversy sells — even if it’s at the expense of realism or respect for America’s military traditions.
But the show’s release timing wasn’t coincidental. It dropped just a week after new military standards were announced by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who made it clear he’s not playing footsie with gender ideology.
“We’re done pretending this is some college seminar on inclusivity,” Hegseth said in a press conference. “Dudes in dresses aren’t welcome in our combat forces, and every soldier — male, female, or otherwise — will meet the same physical standards. We’re talking about life-and-death scenarios, not Netflix drama auditions.”
Hegseth’s tough new regulations include uniform, gender-neutral physical requirements for all service members, a shift aimed at ensuring combat readiness, not appeasing Hollywood or activists.
“Standards must be uniform, gender-neutral, and high,” he emphasized. “If not, they’re not standards. They’re just suggestions. Suggestions that get our sons and daughters killed.”
While Boots may earn praise from the coastal elite, military insiders and everyday Americans know the real cost of sacrificing strength for sensitivity. The U.S. military isn’t a stage for social experiments — it’s a fighting force built to win wars.
