Michael Wolff, the discredited author best known for his dubious tell-alls targeting Donald Trump, has filed a lawsuit against First Lady Melania Trump—because she dared to challenge his latest smear campaign.
Wolff, who has made a cottage industry out of attacking the Trump family, claims Melania orchestrated a “calculated campaign to destroy” his reputation. His complaint, reported by TMZ, accuses the First Lady of making “false statements” that he fabricated interviews and intimidated sources—allegations he says torpedoed a lucrative book deal.
The book in question, The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump (Redux), was reportedly so riddled with inflammatory claims that Melania’s legal team issued a cease-and-desist, warning media outlets of potential legal consequences for promoting the baseless content.
In a move that sounds more like performance art than a legal filing, Wolff is suing Melania under New York’s anti-SLAPP laws—a statute designed to protect free speech, not shelter authors from consequences after making incendiary, unverified allegations. He claims her legal threats aim to silence criticism, calling it a tactic to “extract unjustified payments and North Korean-style confessions and apologies.”
One of the more outrageous parts of Wolff’s lawsuit stems from his accusation that Melania has ties to the late pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. In what can only be described as tabloid-level speculation, Wolff insinuates that Melania might be “the missing link in President Trump’s ties” to Epstein, even suggesting their relationship began on Epstein’s notorious “Lolita Express.” He says Melania’s team responded with a letter on October 15, demanding a retraction within six days or face a $1 billion lawsuit.
Wolff accuses the Trumps of intimidation—while he floats lurid Epstein gossip with zero evidence and gets upset when he’s held accountable.
Not surprisingly, Wolff’s salacious claims didn’t stay contained. Hunter Biden, never one to miss an opportunity to embarrass himself, repeated Wolff’s Epstein story during a Daily Beast podcast. That led to a separate $1 billion legal threat from Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, who slammed Biden’s parroting of the “false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements.”
Brito also referred to Wolff as a “serial fabulist”—a polite way of saying professional liar. And he’s not alone in that assessment.
The White House and Donald Trump himself have long dismissed Wolff’s work as fiction masquerading as journalism. Trump didn’t mince words earlier this year when responding to Wolff’s latest publication, All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America, which takes swipes at everyone from Elon Musk to Michelle Obama. Trump posted on Truth Social that Wolff is “a total FAKE JOB” and a “lying sack of s***,” mocking his credibility and revealing that no one in his administration took Wolff’s calls—despite the author’s desperate attempts to secure access.
“He is FAKE NEWS, a total LOSER, and no one should waste their time or money in buying this boring and obviously fictitious book,” Trump wrote. He further clarified that any sources Wolff may have spoken to were insignificant and likely misrepresented.
The book alleges Trump questioned Elon Musk’s sanity after he jumped around at a Pennsylvania rally and includes bizarre conspiracy theories about Michelle Obama and offhanded praise for O.J. Simpson’s legal team. It reads more like clickbait than a credible political exposé.
This is far from the first time Wolff has relied on gossip, conjecture, and unnamed sources to build his brand. He’s published four books focused on Trump, all of which have been publicly debunked or challenged for accuracy. His defenders call it “provocative journalism.” Most would just call it garbage.
Now, as his claims come under fire and legal scrutiny, Wolff is playing the victim card. But this time, it looks like the First Lady isn’t going to let him profit off fantasy without a fight.
