Jasmine Crockett’s lavish expenditures on travel, luxury lodging and security exposed

by

Progressive congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who represents Texas’s 30th Congressional District (covering Dallas), is drawing sharp questions after her campaign filings revealed lavish expenditures on travel, lodging and security — even as she promotes rhetoric that clashes with the lifestyle her spending implies.

Crockett has become one of the more prominent voices among House Democrats and has publicly acknowledged she is “seriously weighing” a run for the U.S. Senate against John Cornyn (R-Texas). “I am seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” she told Politico in October.

Federal Election Commission disclosures show that Crockett’s campaign logged roughly $25,748.87 so far this year on upscale hotels and luxury ground transport.  The destinations are far from her Dallas-based district: hotels in cities such as Martha’s Vineyard, Chicago, New York City, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. AOL Specific hotel line items include:

  • $4,175.01 at the Ritz-Carlton.

  • $2,304.79 at The Luxury Collection.

  • $5,326.52 to The West Hollywood Edition (Los Angeles).

  • $1,173.92 to the Times Square Edition (New York City).

  • Over $2,000 to the Cosmopolitan and Aria resorts in Las Vegas.

  • $2,703.14 to the Edgartown Inn and $3,160.93 at The Coco, both on Martha’s Vineyard.

On the ground-transport side, the campaign paid:

  • $2,728.00 to Chicago-based limousine service Transportation 4 U.

  • $2,310.30 to DCA Car LLC (premium car and limo service).

  • $1,254.00 to Bay Area Limousine.

In addition to the hotel and transport outlays, Crockett’s campaign reportedly spent nearly $50,000 this year on security.  That figure is noteworthy given her prior stance on policing: as a member of the Texas House of Representatives in 2021 she stated,

“The Defund movement seeks to actually bring about healing and finally invest in our communities to make them safer … Defund is about finally being smart on crime. Defund is about lightening the load for our offices of all things they didn’t sign up for. Defund is about finally being fiscally responsible when it comes to policing in this state.”

The juxtaposition of calling to “lighten the load” on law-enforcement while racking up substantial security expenses gives the impression of one rule for the public and another for the political class.

Crockett has also been embroiled in other contentious episodes this year. She came under fire for calling Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas), who uses a wheelchair, “Governor Hot Wheels,” saying:

“Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there – come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a‐– mess, honey.”

She later claimed her remarks were misinterpreted and insisted the focus was on his handling of migrant transport rather than his disability.

In yet another fracas, Crockett defended Jay Jones, the Democratic Virginia attorney general-elect whose private texts fantasized about murdering a Republican lawmaker, saying:

“And I was very excited to see that he was able to pull off the win. Not that I know him – I’ve never met him, I’ve never talked to him…”
and “Listen, there were still Democrats that were talking about it… My deal was, say what you got to say, denounce what he did, but… do you trust this Republican attorney general to stand up … when the state legislature … is trying to balance out this power struggle that Trump is on?”

Additionally, records show Crockett accepted foreign-government-linked funded trips: in February 2023 she traveled to Doha, Qatar (costing over $17,000) paid for by the U.S.-Qatar Business Council, a trade association tied to the Qatari state. The trip included a stay at the Waldorf Astoria Lusail Doha, a five-star waterfront resort.
