by

Daily Caller News Foundation

Police arrested a suspect on Tuesday after a deadly shooting erupted on Kentucky State University’s campus, leaving one person dead.

The Frankfort Police Department said officers responded to reports of an active aggressor on KSU’s campus around 3:35 p.m. Police discovered multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds, leaving one person dead and several others injured, WKYT reported. University officials told WKYT that the shooting occurred in the area of the school’s south campus.

Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said state officials are monitoring the situation and that law enforcement has apprehended a suspect, but the university remains on lockdown as investigators secure the area and continue their search. Officials have not released the suspect’s identity or a possible motive.

Law enforcement officials said the situation remains fluid, and they are continuing to gather details. Police urged the public to avoid the campus as the investigation unfolds.

Kentucky State University and the Frankfort Police Department did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
