In a moment that sent shockwaves through both Hollywood and the political class, global rap icon Nicki Minaj took the stage at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest—and delivered praise for President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance that few saw coming.
Introduced as a surprise guest by TPUSA president Erika Kirk, Minaj didn’t hedge, backpedal, or play the usual celebrity games. Instead, she spoke plainly—and powerfully—about faith, freedom, and why the current Republican leadership has earned her respect.
“I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president,” Minaj declared. “I don’t know if he even knows this, but he’s given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win, and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact.”
That word—hope—was central to her message. While Minaj has previously supported Democratic candidates, she made it clear that this moment, and this administration, are different. In dark times, she said, leadership matters.
Minaj also praised Trump and JD Vance for something conservatives have long argued the left has abandoned: staying connected to real Americans.
“They haven’t lost touch of the world,” she said. “You know, they’re still connected to the world. And what’s happening in the world, with the younger people and older people, with the richer people and not so rich people, they have the ability to still connect and be real and make us feel proud to be American.” That statement alone landed like a thunderbolt in a culture where elite celebrities often look down on everyday citizens—especially those outside coastal bubbles. And Minaj didn’t stop there.
When Kirk brought up Minaj’s viral criticism of California Governor Gavin Newsom, the rapper doubled down with trademark fire. “Dear Newscum, we don’t have a problem cleaning up the scum if we have to, please tread lightly. That’s what I’d say to Gavie poo,” Minaj said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
But beneath the bravado was a serious issue that brought Minaj into alignment with the Trump administration in the first place: the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
In November, Minaj appeared alongside U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz at a UN event spotlighting the brutal killings and religious persecution facing Christians in the region. She has repeatedly emphasized that her involvement is not about party politics—but about moral clarity.
“I want to make it very clear — once again — that this isn’t about taking sides,” Minaj said previously. “This is about standing up in the face of injustice… I will care if anyone, anywhere, is being persecuted for their beliefs.”
For conservatives who have long argued that faith-based persecution is ignored by global elites, Minaj’s stance represents something rare: a major cultural figure refusing to stay silent.
Love her or hate her, Nicki Minaj just did what few celebrities dare to do—she broke ranks, spoke her mind, and stood unapologetically for faith, freedom, and American pride. And the political world is still catching its breath.
