A stunning security lapse has rocked the U.S. Secret Service after an agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail was placed on administrative leave for allegedly leaking sensitive security information to someone he believed was a romantic interest.
The agent, identified as Tomas Escotto, is a Biden administration holdover who openly stated that he voted for Joe Biden and voiced opposition to ICE and the Trump administration. Now, he finds himself at the center of a major national security controversy—one that could have endangered the life of the vice president and his family.
The explosive allegations surfaced after independent journalist James O’Keefe released undercover footage showing Escotto allegedly sharing closely guarded details about Vice President Vance’s security operations. The video, published Tuesday, immediately ignited concern across law enforcement and political circles.
According to O’Keefe, Escotto divulged highly sensitive information, including “protective formations, shift schedules, travel plans, & real-time locations.” Such disclosures, if confirmed, represent a catastrophic breakdown in the very discretion the Secret Service is supposed to embody.
O’Keefe further alleged that the agent went into granular detail, explaining how the vice president is physically protected and how often security teams rotate. “According to O’Keefe, the agent ‘detailed how the Vice President is physically surrounded, described multiple daily shift changes, & disclosed advance security procedures.’”
Even more alarming, the journalist reported that future movements were also discussed. “In addition to past movements, the agent revealed future travel plans, sometimes days in advance. Escotto even sent images from Air Force Two while onboard with the Vice President,” O’Keefe wrote on X.
Perhaps most disturbing, the agent reportedly knew better. “Despite acknowledging that he signed paperwork prohibiting the disclosure of sensitive information, the Secret Service agent repeatedly shared details with someone he believed was a casual romantic interest.”
Following the video’s release, the Secret Service moved quickly—placing Escotto on administrative leave, suspending his security clearance, and cutting off his access to agency systems and facilities. Fox News reported that the fallout has triggered “broader concerns about operational security and an agency-wide retraining order.”
Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn issued a strongly worded statement addressing the breach:
“The U.S. Secret Service has no tolerance for any behavior that could potentially compromise the safety, privacy, or trust of our protectees. This incident is under investigation, and the employee involved has been placed on administrative leave with his clearance suspended and access to agency facilities and systems revoked.”
Quinn also announced sweeping corrective action across the agency:
“The U.S. Secret Service has also issued an order for all personnel to retake the agency’s required anti-espionage training in order to ensure employees are aware of the threats posed by individuals aiming to exploit agency employees for information about our protective operations.”
Acknowledging the seriousness of the failure, Quinn emphasized the agency’s historic mission and issued a rare apology:
“The U.S. Secret Service has a 160-year-old tradition of discretion that sets this agency apart, and we have no tolerance for employees who fail to meet this standard. The U.S. Secret Service deeply apologizes to the Vance family for this violation of their trust and privacy. The faith our protectees place in this agency is not something the U.S. Secret Service takes lightly, and we are committed to taking the necessary actions to ensure that a similar breach of standards does not occur again.”
O’Keefe stated that his organization coordinated with the Secret Service prior to publication and complied with agency requests to withhold certain details. “While the safety of the Vice President and his family was always our top priority, what OMG uncovered raises serious questions about operational security, protocol compliance, and oversight within the U.S. Secret Service.”
The revelations come at a time of heightened political tension and increasing threats against conservative leaders. With Democrats routinely attacking federal immigration enforcement and relentlessly demonizing members of the Trump administration—including Vice President Vance—this breach underscores what critics say is a dangerous culture of lax accountability within federal institutions still staffed by Biden-era holdovers.
For many conservatives, the question now is unavoidable: How many more failures are hiding behind the walls of agencies tasked with protecting America’s leaders?
