Trump puts politics aside, steps in after NBC star’s mother vanishes in chilling mystery

by

President Donald Trump is putting politics aside and stepping up as a commander-in-chief after a chilling crime rocked the family of one of his most persistent media critics.

During a Tuesday question-and-answer session inside the Oval Office, Trump revealed he plans to personally reach out to NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie following the apparent abduction of her elderly mother in Tucson, Arizona — and is weighing federal action to help bring her home.

“I think it’s terrible,” Trump said. “I’m going to call [Savannah Guthrie] later on. I think it’s a terrible thing. … Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out.”

The missing woman, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her Tucson home. By midday Sunday, her family alerted authorities she had vanished. Investigators later confirmed blood was discovered outside the residence — a grim clue that immediately escalated the case.

Local law enforcement hasn’t released full details, but the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has made clear they believe Guthrie was either kidnapped or forcibly abducted. The FBI is now actively involved.

As details trickled out, Trump said he is considering deploying additional federal agents to assist the investigation — a move that underscores his law-and-order instincts even when the victim’s family includes a high-profile media adversary.

Despite a contentious October 2020 NBC town hall where Guthrie aggressively grilled Trump on COVID-19 policies and past social media reposts — even accusing him of “sending a lie” and likening him to “someone’s crazy uncle” — Trump struck a notably gracious tone.

“I always got along very good with Savannah,” he said.

The case took a darker turn Tuesday when authorities confirmed they are reviewing reports of ransom demands.

“We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”

Entertainment outlet TMZ and Arizona station KOLD 13 News both reported receiving unverified ransom notes allegedly tied to the case. According to TMZ, the message demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin and included non-public details about the disappearance. The outlet said it verified the cryptocurrency address was legitimate and that the note contained a deadline. The letter was reportedly forwarded to authorities.

It remains unclear whether the notes received by TMZ and KOLD are connected or identical.

Images of Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home — quiet, sun-washed, and now under law-enforcement scrutiny — stand in stark contrast to the terrifying uncertainty facing her family.

Anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is urged to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

  1. Would the FBI get involved if it were my mother? Or me? If so, then fine, the reaction and staffing is good. If not, why not? Are we not as “important?”
