Five years after America lost one of its most fearless conservative voices, President Donald Trump delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late radio legend, making it clear that Rush Limbaugh’s legacy is anything but forgotten.
From behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, Trump looked straight into the camera and spoke not as a politician reading lines, but as a friend remembering a giant. The video, shared on Truth Social, marked the fifth anniversary of Limbaugh’s passing in 2021 after his battle with cancer.
“Well, this is the fifth anniversary of the loss of a really great man, a great conservative, somebody that loved our country, loved his family, loved a lot of things, but he was a friend of mine, Rush Limbaugh,” Trump said.
It was classic Trump—personal, direct, and unapologetically appreciative of a man who helped shape the modern conservative movement.
The president recalled the early days of his first White House bid, long before he and Limbaugh had even shaken hands. Trump described the moment in 2015 when he got word that the radio powerhouse was backing his insurgent campaign.
“I’d never met Rush when I announced that I was running. I’ll never forget, 2015 and I got a call all excited that Rush Limbaugh just endorsed you,” he said. “I’d never met him. He liked my opening speech.”
That opening speech, of course, was the now-famous escalator moment that shook the political establishment to its core. Trump revisited it in detail:
“He liked when I got up in June and I said, ‘You know, well, we got bad borders, we got bad crime, we got bad everything.’ And he liked it. I came down the escalator with now our first lady, and he thought it was great. And he endorsed me and then I got to know him and I realized what a great guy he was. But, it’s five years and we miss Rush. As Sean Hannity would often say, there will never be another Rush Limbaugh. So to his family, his great wife and family, I just want to say we miss you all, we miss him, and they’ll never be anybody like him. Thank you very much.”
Limbaugh, who transformed talk radio into a conservative force of nature, stood by Trump during the fiercest political battles. In 2020, after Limbaugh revealed his cancer diagnosis, Trump awarded him the nation’s highest civilian honor—the Presidential Medal of Freedom—during the State of the Union address, cementing the bond between two titans of the movement.
Five years later, the message from the Oval Office was unmistakable: the conservative torch Rush carried still burns bright. And in Trump’s words—and in the hearts of millions of listeners—“there will never be another Rush Limbaugh.”
