Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made an eyebrow-raising appearance Sunday night at the glittering Vanity Fair Oscar Party, leaving plenty of viewers wondering how a veteran politician wound up mingling among Hollywood’s A-list.
The 85-year-old Democratic heavyweight arrived with her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi, stepping onto the famed red carpet shortly after the curtain fell on the Academy Awards.
Within minutes, photos of the couple posing together began circulating online — and social media lit up with confusion, jokes, and more than a little disbelief.
For decades, Pelosi has been a defining figure on Capitol Hill, not exactly a regular on Hollywood’s glitziest party circuit. So seeing the longtime San Francisco congresswoman suddenly appear at one of entertainment’s most exclusive gatherings caught many observers off guard.
One baffled user on X reacted with a blunt question: “Why??”
Another commenter piled on with a biting jab: “Honestly, the audacity is almost impressive! They’re really out here acting like they’re the protagonist in a high-stakes heist movie, but we all know the only thing they’re actually ‘securing’ is their own screen time.”
The unexpected cameo quickly became its own side show on Hollywood’s biggest night.
To be fair, the Pelosis aren’t complete strangers to the event. The pair also attended the Vanity Fair bash following the Oscars in 2025, suggesting the power couple may be carving out a regular spot on the guest list.
Still, the moment renewed interest in a couple who have long drawn attention not just for political influence — but also for remarkable financial success.
When Pelosi first won election to Congress in 1987 at age 47, financial disclosures showed that she and her husband had a net worth of about $3 million, including between $610,000 and $785,000 in stocks.
Fast-forward nearly four decades and that portfolio has exploded in value.
Estimates from the analytics firm Quiver Quantitative put the Pelosi family’s stock holdings today at roughly $133.7 million.
That staggering climb works out to an eye-popping 17,000 percent increase.
To put that into perspective, the benchmark S&P 500 has risen about 5,282 percent during that same stretch, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained roughly 2,339 percent.
Even after factoring in inflation, analysts say the Pelosis’ investments have generated average annual returns of around 14.5 percent — roughly double the long-term performance of major U.S. stock indexes.
