WASHINGTON, D.C. — With the government shutdown dragging into its fifth week, President Donald Trump is turning up the heat—not on Democrats alone, but on his own party.
In a fiery late-night message, Trump made it crystal clear: no compromise, no deals, no surrender until Republicans secure a major legislative victory in the form of the SAVE America Act.
“I don’t think we should make any deal with the Crazy, Country Destroying, Radical Left Democrats unless, and until, they Vote with Republicans to pass ‘THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,’” Trump declared.
As Washington insiders whisper about possible negotiations to reopen the Department of Homeland Security, Trump is slamming the door shut. The president is demanding party unity behind a sweeping bill that would overhaul federal election rules and tackle hot-button cultural issues.
Among its provisions: mandatory photo ID for voting, stricter limits on mail-in ballots, paper ballot requirements, protections for women’s sports, and a ban on transgender procedures for minors.
Trump framed the stakes in stark terms, blasting Democrats while also cautioning Republicans not to buckle under pressure.
“It is far more important than anything else we are doing in the Senate,” he said, warning against any agreement that would include “a Five Billion Dollar cut in ICE funding,” which he called unacceptable without major concessions.
Then came the ultimatum— “They will never be elected again!”
Trump is now pushing Senate Majority Leader John Thune to expose any Republicans who break ranks. The president wants names, and he wants accountability. In his words, Thune must “clearly identify” those he implied are Republicans in name only—placing the word in quotation marks for emphasis.
So far, only one GOP senator, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, has opposed the SAVE America Act. But Trump’s message suggests zero tolerance for further defections.
No Deal, No Break, No Filibuster
Trump is also escalating his demands procedurally, calling for dramatic action in the Senate to force the bill through. “In other words, lump everything together as one, and VOTE!!! Kill the Filibuster, and stay in D.C. for Easter, if necessary,” he urged, closing with his signature rallying cry: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Shutdown Showdown Enters Day 36
The high-stakes standoff shows no sign of easing as the shutdown hits Day 36. Trump doubled down earlier in the evening during a brief exchange with NewsNation reporter Hannah Brandt. “I don’t think any deal should be made on this until they approve SAVE America,” he said bluntly. “Ok, so you have a scoop.”
The Bottom Line
For any Republican thinking of crossing him, Trump has already delivered the verdict.
