It was a rare, camera-ready clapback. First lady Melania Trump stepped into the spotlight Thursday and torched what she called “disgraceful” lies tying her to dead financier and convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein — and she didn’t mince words.
WATCH:
Speaking directly and forcefully, Melania made it crystal clear: no friendship, no connection, no role in how she met Donald Trump.
“The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today,” she said. “The individuals lying about me are devoid of ethical standards, humility and respect. I do not object to their ignorance, but rather, I reject their mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation.”
She doubled down, noting her name never surfaced in Epstein-related court documents — a detail her defenders say should have shut this down long ago.
And just like that, the political floodgates opened.
Republicans lined up fast and loud. Rep. Nancy Mace praised the first lady on X, posting an image declaring, “Melania Trump stands with Epstein victims.” Mace, who’s been pushing hard for transparency around the Epstein files, thanked Melania for backing victims and spotlighting legislation cracking down on fake explicit images.
“Thank you to our First Lady for being a voice for victims across the country. From her work on the Take It Down Act to publicly standing for the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and calling for action and the truth,” she said.
“The truth will prevail. America is strong when strong women stand up for what is right.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Thomas Massie took things a step further — backing the call for survivor testimony but aiming fire at the Justice Department.
“First Lady asks Congress to bring Epstein survivors in for testimony. With all due respect, that’s @DAGToddBlanche’s job!,” he said.
“@RepRoKhanna & I already gave brave survivors a chance to tell their horrific stories on Capitol Hill. @PamBondi wouldn’t even acknowledge them. PROSECUTE!”
Even former Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene — now estranged from the president — chimed in, backing Melania and demanding accountability.
“I am grateful to the First Lady for her brave statement today about Epstein and his victims,” she said. “I agree with her that the victims should be heard. I also agree with Thomas Massie. The DOJ needs to PROSECUTE!!! And the role of Congress is to legislate, not prosecute.”
Across the aisle, Democrats saw an opening — and took it. Rep. Robert Garcia called for immediate hearings, urging House Oversight Chair James Comer to act.
“We agree with First Lady Melania Trump’s call for a public hearing with the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. We encourage Chairman Comer to respond to the First Lady’s request and schedule a public hearing immediately,” he said.
Garcia also framed Melania’s remarks as a turning point — though not without a partisan jab.
“The First Lady said two things,” Garcia said. “1) She pushed back on Acting AG Todd Blanche & her husband’s efforts to kill this investigation. 2) She joined our efforts to call for a public hearing where survivors who choose to do so have an opportunity to testify.”
Even as Melania slammed the smears, Washington did what it does best — spun it.
But strip away the noise, and one thing is undeniable: the usually reserved first lady stepped forward, drew a hard line, and made it clear she’s not taking the hit quietly.
In a town built on whispers, Melania just shouted back.
