Tacogate! Left targets beloved Latino-owned chain over ‘wrong’ politics of CEO

by

Here we go again: another day, another digital mob trying to cancel a business—not over food safety, not over wages, but over politics.

This time, the target is Roberto’s Taco Shop, a family-founded chain that’s been dishing out “fast traditional Mexican food” since 1964, when Roberto and Dolores Robledo launched the operation in San Diego. Today, the brand spans more than 80 locations across California, Nevada, and Texas, run in part by their son, CEO Reynaldo Robledo.

So what’s the crime? According to the outrage machine, it’s ideological impurity.

The latest flare-up started when a TikTok activist—who proudly claims she exposes “Latino MAGA businesses that profit off La Raza”—posted a video accusing Robledo of supporting President Donald Trump. Her evidence: screenshots from what she says is Robledo’s personal Facebook account, allegedly showing pro-Trump sentiments. That account has since gone private, because of course it has—welcome to 2026, where having the “wrong” opinion often means locking down your life.

In the video, the TikToker unloads: “Did this CEO really forget that all of his restaurants are based on Mexican dishes, who wouldn’t have made it here without the immigrants that are currently being affected by the current administration that you are supporting?” She adds, “You also forget that the majority of your clients are Latinos?”

And then the kicker: “Are we going to allow these people to hide, say and lie to our face that they stand by us and then behind closed doors, they’re somebody else?”

Not to be outdone, a Facebook group called “A Strong Nevada” piled on with its own call to arms: “Did you know that Reynaldo Robledo, the CEO of Roberto’s Taco Shop is a huge MAGA supporter and supports ICE! Looks like you won’t be getting our business anymore!”

Meanwhile, over on Reddit—where outrage goes to ferment—hundreds chimed in, promising to boycott the taco chain. Because nothing says “principled stand” like skipping a burrito.

Lost in the noise is a key detail: Robledo has publicly engaged in politics before. Back in 2020, he appeared at a “Latinos for Trump” roundtable, where he thanked the president for policies he said helped Latino-owned businesses. Shocking, right? A business owner expressing gratitude for economic policy he believes worked.

But here’s where reality intrudes. One of the chain’s Las Vegas franchise groups issued a statement reminding the internet that the real world doesn’t run on hashtags: “Roberto’s Taco Shop is proud to be a Latino-owned and operated franchise that serves diverse communities across Nevada. While our CEO may hold personal political beliefs, it is important to note that each of our 49 franchisees operate their stores independently.”

They continued:
“The day-to-day operations and livelihoods of our 600 team members reflect the hard work, values, and cultural heritage of families, many of whom are Latino immigrants, who are dedicated to serving their local communities.”

Let’s be honest about what’s happening here. This isn’t about tacos. It’s about control. The same crowd that lectures endlessly about “diversity” seems awfully interested in enforcing political conformity—especially when it comes to minority business owners who dare to think differently.

The real question is this: how many small businesses have to become political punching bags before Americans decide they’ve had enough of cancel culture with a side of guac?
