Back in late September 2025, comedian and podcaster Adam Carolla sat down on Jesse Watters Primetime and tossed out a zinger that landed harder than most Beltway briefings. During the segment, Carolla joked about rebranding ICE as “NICE”—short for National Immigration and Customs Enforcement—and even held up a jacket reading “POLICE NICE.” It was classic Carolla: part satire, part common sense, and entirely designed to needle the language games of modern politics.
Fast-forward a few months, and what started as late-night banter is now knocking on the door of actual policy—thanks to President Donald Trump, who never met a good media troll he didn’t like.
In March, an X user named Alyssa revived the concept with a simple, savage suggestion: “I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday.”
That post eventually made its way onto Truth Social, where Trump responded in his signature understated fashion: “GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT.”
For years, Immigration and Customs Enforcement—ICE—has been cast as the villain in countless breathless segments and op-eds, complete with ominous tone and carefully selected wording. Now imagine those same anchors having to say “NICE agents” with a straight face.
Naturally, the outrage machine is already warming up. Critics are dismissing the idea as a gimmick, a distraction, a rebrand that doesn’t change the underlying policies. The same chorus, different day.
Messaging has always mattered—especially to the people now pretending it doesn’t. The left has spent years fine-tuning language to shape perception. “Undocumented,” not illegal. “Asylum seekers,” not border crossers. Words are everything—until Trump flips the script. And flip it he has.
Because whether or not the name actually changes (and yes, that would require more than a Truth Social thumbs-up), the trap has already been set. If the acronym ever becomes official, the media can either say “NICE agents” or tie itself in knots trying not to. Either way, Trump wins the headline. And Carolla? He gets the last laugh.
As for the activists who once made a spectacle out of ICE protests—remember the performative stunts, the viral outrage, the endless hashtags—you have to wonder: what happens when the target is called “NICE”?
