Schumer launches ‘elections task force’—Trump fires back with his own ‘election integrity army’

by

Donald Trump is once again putting election security front and center—and, predictably, Washington is already melting down over it.

With control of Congress hanging by a thread heading into the 2026 midterms, the president is pledging what he calls a scaled-up “election integrity army,” a grassroots-style GOP operation aimed at monitoring voting procedures across the country. The move is a direct revival—and expansion—of the Republican ballot-watch program deployed during the 2024 cycle.

According to Trump, that earlier effort helped shore up confidence in the process and ensured a stronger GOP showing in key battlegrounds. Now he’s promising an even more aggressive version.

The announcement comes as Democrats roll out their own counter-operation. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer revealed the formation of a new “elections task force,” bringing in former Attorney General Eric Holder and longtime Democratic election attorney Marc Elias to “identify any and all threats” to upcoming elections.

Trump didn’t exactly take it lightly.

In a Sunday post on Truth Social, he went after the Democratic effort in typical fashion, writing:

“Palestinian Chuck Schumer is hiring Eric Holder, famous for handing guns to Mexican cartels under the Barack Hussein Obama administration, as part of a Democrat-led ‘Election Integrity Group’ that will no doubt try to suppress Republican voters, and interfere in our Elections. Furthermore, Marc Elias, a terrible lawyer with a horrible track record, is also involved,” Trump wrote, noting that Elias “was responsible for the fake Russia dossier” during the 2016 election.

He continued:

“The Democrats are totally unhinged, and we will not allow them to threaten the integrity of our Elections.”

Trump then pivoted to his own 2024 performance, arguing Republicans already proved their system works when properly organized:

“During my Historic Election in 2024, when I won every single Swing State, and decisively won both the Electoral and Popular votes by wide margins, the Republicans had an Election Integrity Army in every single State to preserve the sanctity of each legal vote. We will be doing the same again in 2026, but it will be much bigger and stronger. All Americans should have their voices be heard by casting a vote. Be assured this Election will be fair!”

On the Democratic side, Schumer framed the new effort as defensive rather than aggressive, arguing Republicans are the real threat to voting access. In an April 29 statement, he said:

“Democrats aren’t going to sit back and hope for the best. We’re acting early and at scale—launching the largest election protection effort in the country—to expose these schemes, stop voter suppression, and make sure the American people—not politicians—decide our elections.”

Eric Holder escalated the rhetoric further, warning of what he described as unprecedented threats to voting rights:

“Our nation is confronting the most serious threats to voting rights since the Jim Crow Era. The aggressive, unabashed pursuit of power at the expense of individual rights comes from the highest level of government and animates the Republican Party. Just this past year, we have seen sustained efforts from Trump and his MAGA sycophants to undermine fair elections and rig the midterms through gerrymandered maps,” Holder said.

Marc Elias, for his part, brushed off Trump’s criticism with a bit of trademark defiance, posting:

“Trump’s latest attack on me is as unhinged as ever. I wear his scorn as a badge of honor.”
