Double-amputee Fox contributor Joey Jones reenlists in US Marines

by

In an America where too many professional complainers treat hardship like a full-time job, Johnny “Joey” Jones just delivered a reminder of what grit actually looks like.

The Fox News personality and decorated combat veteran officially reenlisted in the United States Marine Corps this week during a ceremony at the Pentagon — proving that even after losing both legs in Afghanistan, he still believes he has more to give to the country than half the able-bodied bureaucrats roaming Washington.

Jones, a former staff sergeant and explosive ordnance disposal technician, was sworn back into service by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes on Wednesday. The moment carried symbolism far bigger than one Marine putting the uniform back on. It was a middle finger to America’s growing culture of excuses.

“The last job I had in uniform — my job was to get better. It was to heal,” Jones said during the ceremony. “It’s a very selfish thing. My job was to heal. The Marine Corps paid me to get better, and then I retired. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but it was unfinished business.”

Jones served eight years in the Marines and deployed twice before a devastating 2010 IED blast in Afghanistan changed his life forever. The explosion cost him both legs and severely damaged his right forearm and wrists. Most people would’ve called it a career. Jones called it halftime.

Since recovering from his injuries, he’s become one of the most recognizable veterans in conservative media, using his platform to hammer home the values of service, sacrifice and patriotism while much of cable news remains trapped in an endless therapy session about America’s supposed sins.

And now he’s heading back into uniform. “If there’s an opportunity for me to serve, there’s no reason why a no-legged 40-year-old staff sergeant should be able to put the uniform on, other than these men believed it,” Jones said. “And the goal here is to open that door for anyone else that has something left to give.”

Hegseth, himself a veteran who has spent years pushing back against Pentagon politicization and military recruitment collapses, praised Jones as a living embodiment of Marine Corps values. “I don’t think there’s a better spokesman for the Marine Corps, understanding what it’s all about, what it means to serve, the brotherhood that exists there, than how Joey talks about it on television so that the American people understand it and connect to it in a visceral way,” Hegseth said. “If you spend any time with him, which I know a lot of you have, you know it’s in his bones. It’s in his heart and soul, wearing that uniform.” Hegseth added that when he heard Jones wanted back in, “it actually didn’t surprise me,” calling the reenlistment “an absolute no-brainer.”

To normal Americans, the idea of a double-amputee volunteering to serve again sounds extraordinary. To Marines, apparently, it sounds exactly like Joey Jones.

Jones will continue his role at Fox News as co-host of “The Big Weekend Show” while also contributing military analysis across the network. He’s also authored bestselling books focused on veterans, first responders and the bonds forged through sacrifice.
