Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed walked straight into the Fox News lion’s den — and quickly found himself pinned down by Will Cain in a rapid-fire clash.
The combustible exchange became a showcase of Cain’s relentless interview style, as the Fox host repeatedly pressed El-Sayed to directly answer questions the Democrat appeared determined to sidestep in favor of broader political talking points.
Cain zeroed in on El-Sayed’s past immigration rhetoric, hammering the progressive Democrat over a deleted social media post declaring that “immigrants are American, refugees are American, undocumented people are American.”
“It is violating law to come in this country illegally,” Cain fired back during the interview. “If you want no enforcement mechanism for it, what I see is you advocating for lawlessness.”
The Fox host kept the pressure on. “When I see things like you put on your X feed … I see you denying something like the rule of law and the concept of citizenship,” Cain said. “I’m curious if that’s your proposal to the people of Michigan?”
Rather than directly address the question, El-Sayed pivoted into an attack on Trump’s controversial DOJ compensation proposal — a fund allegedly designed to reimburse people who were unfairly targeted by former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department and Democratic prosecutors.
“If we want to talk about law enforcement, I do want to bring up the question about the $1.8 billion Department of Justice piggy bank that Donald Trump wants to hand out to people who clearly broke our laws on January 6,” El-Sayed said.
Then came another sharp detour: gasoline prices. The Democrat abruptly launched into a Memorial Day story about filling up his tank. “I ask the question about gas prices because I happened to pump my gas on Memorial Day. The worst part of my day was having to pay $82.89,” he said. “I thought about the fact that we lost more than a dozen service members in a war we never should have been fighting, to raise those gas prices in the first place.”
Cain, clearly trying to pull the conversation back to the original question, interrupted before the answer drifted further afield. “I appreciate your position,” he replied. “You are opposed to the war in Iran, and you don’t like the current gas prices—”
That only escalated the verbal pileup.
“Will! Will!” El-Sayed interrupted repeatedly while trying to reclaim the floor, insisting he wanted to “finish” his answer as Cain shot back: “You’re not answering my questions.”
By the end, the segment had devolved into the kind of chaotic cable-news showdown producers love — immigration, January 6, Middle East wars and inflation all jammed into one seven-minute shouting match, with Cain repeatedly refusing to let El-Sayed escape the original line of questioning.
This guy underestimated Will Cain. His BS was shut down repeatedly. pic.twitter.com/6AvMtVBhEk
