‘We chose Kamala’ Jill Biden makes major slip on book tour

by

Jill Biden is on a book tour, but it wasn’t a chapter in print that grabbed attention — it was a few off-the-cuff words that sent the internet into overdrive and revived long-running political suspicions Republicans have been airing for years.

Speaking to MS NOW, the former first lady reflected on the Biden-Harris ticket and what she described as a unified team effort between the Bidens and Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff. But it was her phrasing that immediately lit up social media.

“Joe and Kamala, me and Doug, I thought we made a great team. We chose Kamala, or Joe chose Kamala to be VP, and so we were supportive of her. And look, when Joe got out, he handed over the reins to Kamala. He had full confidence in her. I went out on the road a lot, a lot, for Kamala, and honestly, I truly believed she was going to win.”

That quick correction — “we chose Kamala, or Joe chose Kamala” — was all it took for critics online to seize on the moment like a loose thread in a sweater.

For years, Republicans and conservative commentators have argued there were too many cooks in the Biden White House kitchen, suggesting the former president wasn’t always the central decision-maker in key moments, especially after concerns about his age and stamina dominated the political conversation. The idea that others in his orbit — including senior aides and even Jill Biden — may have had outsized influence has been a recurring theme on the right.

The clip quickly made the rounds on X, where users treated it like a Rorschach test for their worst suspicions about the last administration’s inner workings.

One savvy user wrote: “Biden learned how to pick a VP from Obama, pick somebody so dumb that nobody would even think about assassinating you.”

The moment itself may have been a simple verbal slip — but that’s not likely.
