Authorities took three people into custody after a group attacked a CBS Chicago news crew near Adler Planetarium on Monday.

While preparing for a newscast, two men screamed racial slurs at one of the journalists, rushed toward them and attempted to direct a dog to attack a victim, NBC Chicago reported.

Suspects smashed the CBS news van’s windshield and camera, while the rest of the news equipment remains surrounded by police tape, according to footage from an NBC Chicago photographer.

“We are shocked and horrified by this crime and we are grateful that our journalists are safe,” a CBS spokesperson told NBC Chicago.

CBS Chicago did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for additional comment.

Suspects fled in a white tow truck in an unknown direction. Authorities have arrested suspects in custody and have yet to announce charges, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

In recent years, multiple journalists in Chicago have been attacked on the job.

In February, a man attacked ABC’s Leah Hope; a man grabbed hold of her, then force opened her jaw and grabbed her tongue, tearing ligaments.

Leah argued that attacks like these show a need to better support the homeless.

Back in 2023, a Univision crew was robbed; among the objects stolen was the camera that documented the crime.

That same month, Gary Hall, a WGN-TV reporter covering wind damage, when a man grabbed her by the shoulders and made explicitly sexual remarks toward her.
