Trump’s massive pardon proposal hits turbulence inside MAGA world

by

TDBS WIRE: MSN ‘I’m not…behind that!’ Lindell TV host slams Trump’s potential 250 pardons list that includes a convicted sex cult leader

A proposal reportedly being discussed inside President Donald Trump’s orbit to grant 250 pardons in honor of America’s 250th birthday is generating excitement among criminal justice reform advocates, concern among some White House allies, and outright skepticism from at least one prominent pro-Trump media personality.

The concept, dubbed “250 for 250,” was first detailed in recent reports describing discussions among administration officials and pardon advocates about using the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration as an opportunity to grant clemency to hundreds of individuals believed to have received excessive sentences or been caught up in politically motivated prosecutions. The idea has reportedly received support from presidential pardon adviser Alice Johnson and other officials involved in the administration’s clemency process.

The proposal has not been formally approved by President Trump, and reports indicate some advisers remain divided over both the politics and the potential names that could ultimately appear on any final list.

What made this story explode across conservative media circles wasn’t the possibility of pardons for January 6 defendants or victims of what many conservatives view as Biden-era lawfare. It was the reported inclusion of several controversial names.

During a segment on LindellTV, host Emerald Robinson openly questioned whether some of the individuals reportedly being discussed belong anywhere near a presidential clemency package tied to America’s 250th birthday.

“It would be great, right, if the president is truly pardoning good Americans who were faced with true government overreach and weaponization,” Robinson said.

She was initially enthusiastic after hearing arguments from attorney Jonathan Gross, who has urged Trump to pursue broad clemency for individuals caught up in what conservatives describe as a weaponized justice system.

Gross argued that if Trump embraced such an effort, “your second term will be known forever as the ‘great emancipation,’ and you, along with Moses, will be known as ‘the great emancipator.'”

But Robinson’s tone changed dramatically after reviewing reports about some of the names allegedly under consideration. Among those mentioned in media reports was Nicole Daedone, co-founder of the OneTaste organization, who was convicted in a forced labor conspiracy case. Also reportedly discussed was international fugitive financier Jho Low, who remains connected to allegations surrounding the massive 1MDB financial scandal.

“The reporting went on to say that there have been discussions involving very rich, well-placed individuals from India, Greece, Turkey, and France who were told that their cases were under consideration,” Robinson said.

“Suffice to say, the devil is in the details.” Moments later, Robinson delivered an even more direct verdict. “I was excited when I saw the headline and the initial blurb,” she said. “It sounded so much like what you said that the president should do.”

Then she added: “If it’s the list that The Atlantic is providing, I’m not perhaps behind that!”

Many Trump supporters enthusiastically back pardons for January 6 defendants, military veterans, whistleblowers, and individuals they believe were targeted by politically motivated prosecutions. Others argue that lumping those cases together with convicted fraudsters, international fugitives, or high-profile white-collar criminals could undermine public support for a broader clemency effort.

The White House has not confirmed any final pardon list, and reports indicate Trump himself had not yet been formally presented with a finalized proposal. Advisers reportedly remain divided over whether a large-scale clemency announcement would be politically beneficial heading into the midterm election cycle. For now, the debate remains largely hypothetical.

But the reaction from normally loyal MAGA voices demonstrates that even among Trump’s strongest supporters, not every pardon is viewed equally.

This is one of those moments where conservatives need to resist the urge to cheer before reading the fine print. The idea itself is fantastic. America’s 250th birthday should absolutely include correcting genuine injustices. If somebody got steamrolled by a weaponized DOJ, railroaded by activist prosecutors, or crushed under absurd sentencing practices, let’s have that conversation. Many Americans watched the Biden years and saw a justice system that often seemed more interested in political outcomes than equal treatment under the law. But here’s the problem. Every time Washington announces some grand, sweeping program, somebody inevitably sneaks nonsense into the package.

It’s like ordering a steak dinner and discovering somebody tossed a bowl of spoiled potato salad onto the plate.

If there are deserving people who should receive clemency, terrific. If there are January 6 defendants who were treated unfairly, make the case. If there are victims of government overreach, let’s hear their stories.

But if we’re talking about international financial fugitives, sex-cult operators, billionaire-connected influence campaigns, and every well-connected operator who suddenly discovered patriotism after getting indicted? That’s where conservatives are going to start asking questions.

The good news is that Donald Trump has never been shy about making his own decisions. The bad news for pardon lobbyists is that MAGA voters actually read the guest list. And as Emerald Robinson discovered, there is a big difference between “freeing political prisoners” and “cleaning out the federal penitentiary because it’s America’s birthday.”
