DBS WIRE SOURCES:NewsNation: Mike Rowe sues Discovery for $2 million in alleged unpaid narrating fees

Mike Rowe, the longtime voice of Deadliest Catch and one of television’s most recognizable champions of blue-collar America, is taking Warner Bros. Discovery back to court, alleging the company failed to pay him more than $2 million owed under a contract covering narration work on the hit fishing series.
According to court filings first reported by multiple outlets, Rowe and his production company, Lab Rat LLC, filed suit against Discovery Talent Services last week, claiming the network breached a “pay-to-play” agreement that guaranteed compensation whether Rowe actually narrated specific episodes or not.
The lawsuit centers on a 2020 contract that reportedly pays Rowe $40,000 per episode for Deadliest Catch and related programming.
Rowe has served as the iconic narrator of the franchise since 2005, becoming nearly as synonymous with the series as the crab fishermen battling storms in the Bering Sea.
According to the complaint, Discovery failed to compensate him for at least 51 episodes of Deadliest Catch and various spinoff productions that Rowe argues fall under the agreement.
The dispute reportedly involves international versions of the show that Rowe’s attorneys contend were “materially different” from the versions broadcast in the United States.
Under the terms described in the lawsuit, those altered versions should qualify as newly produced episodes rather than simple reruns or repackaged content, triggering additional compensation obligations.
The complaint alleges Discovery owes approximately $2.04 million in unpaid fees, plus interest and other damages.
The case also expands an already contentious legal battle between Rowe and the media giant.
Last year, Rowe filed a separate lawsuit involving residual payments tied to streaming distribution of Deadliest Catch, arguing he was not properly compensated after episodes migrated to digital platforms.
Neither Discovery nor Warner Bros. Discovery has publicly addressed the latest allegations in detail.
The lawsuit now heads toward what could become a high-profile contract fight involving one of television’s most popular non-political personalities.
For many Americans, Rowe has spent two decades building a reputation as an advocate for skilled trades, vocational education, and the dignity of work. Through Dirty Jobs, his foundation, and countless public appearances, Rowe has become one of the country’s most recognizable voices promoting careers outside the traditional four-year college path.
