Pronoun dispute erupts into chaotic confrontation as viral UCF bodycam footage reignites campus policing debate

A newly released body camera video from the University of Central Florida is drawing millions of views after capturing an explosive confrontation between campus police and a self-described transgender student that ended with pepper spray, a Taser deployment and an arrest.

The incident itself happened on Feb. 5, 2025, but the footage was only recently made public after being released by Inside The Blue TV, immediately igniting fresh political and cultural debate online.

According to the video and court records, officers initially responded to campus for an unrelated call when they encountered 27-year-old Jarrett Vick. The interaction deteriorated almost immediately. Video shows Vick shouting at the responding officer, demanding to know, “Why do you let those pigs get away with this? They are not supposed to be here.”

When the officer instructed Vick to lower his voice or risk being handcuffed, the exchange escalated. “F–king try it. Are you threatening me? You’re threatening me,” Vick responded, prompting the officer to radio for backup. As tensions mounted, the officer remarked, “He is having a breakdown,” prompting Vick to yell back:

“She! She! Just say the right pronoun!”

The officer repeatedly ordered Vick to calm down before deploying pepper spray after those commands went ignored, according to the video.

A university employee attempted to defuse the confrontation, but Vick continued shouting profanities, yelling, “Get away! F–k you! F–k you, cop!”

Later in the encounter, Vick again demanded officers use female pronouns, telling a university employee:

“Please just tell them to use the right pronouns because it’s causing me a lot of distress.”

Authorities say the confrontation turned physical when Vick allegedly attempted to kick and swing at officers. Another officer deployed a Taser before Vick was handcuffed and placed into a patrol vehicle.

Court records show Vick, who is from Treasure Island, Florida, was charged with:

  • Battery on a law enforcement officer
  • Resisting arrest
  • Disorderly conduct

Vick pleaded not guilty. Orange County court records indicate the criminal cases have since been closed. Arrest records list Vick as male.

When contacted after the video’s release, Vick told the New York Post:

“I was being f–king harassed by the cops,” adding that the renewed attention has resulted in harassment from the media.

MY TAKE:

Imagine being the responding officer. You get dispatched to deal with a disturbance, and suddenly you’re starring in The Pronoun Games. Instead of worrying about whether someone is about to throw a punch, you’re apparently expected to remember an ever-changing style guide approved by the Department of Feelings.

The officer says “he,” and suddenly it’s DEFCON 1.

Look, law enforcement officers have enough on their plates without carrying an HR manual in one pocket and a sociology textbook in the other. Their job isn’t to referee identity politics. Their job is to keep people safe and restore order.

This wasn’t about pronouns anymore the moment someone allegedly started kicking and swinging at police. At that point, gravity takes over. So do handcuffs.

This is what happens when an entire generation is taught that emotional discomfort is the highest form of emergency. Raise your voice, stomp your feet, scream “She! She! She!” loud enough, and somehow everyone else is supposed to suspend reality until your feelings are properly validated.

Here’s a crazy thought. Maybe if everyone spent less time policing pronouns and more time policing behavior, these encounters wouldn’t end with pepper spray, Tasers, and a ride in the back of a patrol car.
