Actor Anson Mount, who appeared on Wednesday’s program to promote the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, was making his way down the panel greeting each host when Joy Behar turned a customary cheek kiss into a lingering kiss on the lips.
Mount, who has been married to Darah Trang since 2018, appeared momentarily caught off guard. After taking his seat, he wiped lipstick from his face while fellow co-host Sunny Hostin handed him a tissue. Sara Haines looked stunned, Alyssa Farah Griffin covered her face with her hands, and the audience erupted in cheers.
Trying to lighten the mood, Mount simply shrugged and said:
“Wow.”
Whoopi Goldberg welcomed him to the show, while Hostin joked that Behar had been excited about his appearance all morning.

Hours after Wednesday’s broadcast, Behar and The View executive producer Brian Teta discussed the incident on the show’s Behind the Table podcast, revealing that the actor’s appearance had been the subject of off-color jokes backstage long before he walked onto the set.
Introducing Behar with a grin, Teta dubbed her the show’s “humper-in-chief” before explaining that the co-hosts had spent much of the morning making puns about Anson Mount’s last name.
“There was a lot of talk of mounting,” Teta joked.
Behar didn’t deny it.
“You could get turned on just by the name,” she quipped, adding that co-host Whoopi Goldberg had been in on the fun as well.
“Whoopi was having some fun with that.”
Behar acknowledged that the joking continued throughout the morning.
“All morning I’ve been hearing about Anson Mount, and I’ve been making jokes about his name.”
She then admitted that when the married actor walked onto the set, impulse took over.
“When he came out, I just felt like kissing him.”

If a male daytime host had unexpectedly grabbed a married female guest and pulled her into a lingering kiss on live television, it’s hard to imagine the conversation ending with a laugh and a tissue to wipe off lipstick. There would almost certainly be serious questions about workplace conduct, professionalism and personal boundaries.
That’s why the reaction here has prompted so much discussion. Many viewers who thought the moment was funny also acknowledged they’d probably view it differently if the roles were reversed.
Whether someone found the exchange charming, awkward or uncomfortable, the broader question isn’t really about Joy Behar or Anson Mount. It’s whether the same standard applies regardless of who’s sitting in the host’s chair.
Public figures often say everyone should be treated equally. Moments like this are where that principle gets tested.
