Actor James Woods delivered a dark and furious warning about the future of the United States Monday, declaring that historians may someday view the election of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as the moment America began its final descent.

Appearing on conservative commentator Benny Johnson’s program, Woods described America as:

“The greatest human endeavor in the history of humankind.”

But he quickly added:

“I think it’s in terrible trouble.”

Woods pointed directly to Mamdani, a democratic socialist and New York City’s first Muslim mayor, calling his election:

“The most dangerous event” in modern American history.

He then tied Mamdani’s rise to the location where nearly 3,000 people were murdered by al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001.

“The city where the World Trade Center and the people in it were slaughtered and destroyed—how you could ever allow this Muslim invasion and cancer?”

Woods anticipated the criticism immediately.

“And they say, ‘What are you, prejudiced?’ Well, yes. I’m sorry to say it.”

He insisted that his objection was not based on race but on what he regards as the political and violent elements of Islamic doctrine.

“I’m prejudiced against a religion—that’s really a political jihad.”

Woods said that as a Catholic, he accepts that people of different faiths have the right to worship freely in America. His objection, he argued, begins when a religious or political movement advocates violence against nonbelievers.

“You have a right to do it. This is America.”

But he added:

“You don’t have a right to practice something” that seeks the death of people outside the faith.

The interview itself was streamed on Johnson’s social-media channels Monday.

Woods moved from criticism of jihadist ideology to a sweeping prediction about Muslims generally.

“They’re gonna kill us. They’re gonna outbreed us and kill us, and it’s gonna be done.”

He pointed to the persecution and murder of Christians in countries including Sudan as evidence that Americans are underestimating the threat posed by radical Islamist movements.

The persecution of Christians in parts of Africa and the Middle East is real. Islamist terrorist organizations have committed mass murder, forced conversions and religious cleansing. Americans have every right—and an obligation—to confront those ideologies without apology.

The latest Pew Religious Landscape Study found that approximately 1.2% of American adults identify as Muslim. Pew also describes the community as racially diverse, with no single racial or ethnic group forming a majority.

None of that requires giving Mamdani a pass.

His policies, associations and rhetoric deserve intense scrutiny precisely because he governs the city attacked on 9/11.

Mamdani’s critics have objected to his past reluctance to plainly condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada,” his praise for controversial religious and political figures and his relationships with activists who have made inflammatory statements about America and Israel.

Nearly 17,000 people had reportedly signed a petition by Monday urging Mamdani to stay away from the 25th anniversary commemoration at Ground Zero. The effort was started by a man whose wife was killed in the attacks and has gained support from other victims’ relatives, survivors and first responders.

Mamdani has rejected that demand and said he intends to attend the ceremony to honor the victims, survivors and first responders.
