British sports outlets picked up the story Monday morning as video circulated of Trump receiving the trophies at the club.

“The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Thank you very much to all of those who participated. I won with a score of 70, and am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I’m given very little time to practice, because I’m focused on many other things.”

Then came the line that assured this would not be mistaken for a traditional golfer’s humble victory statement:

“It’s called TALENT, and I have it, and they don’t!”

Trump’s reported 70 would place him two strokes under par on Bedminster’s Tom Fazio-designed Old Course. The club describes the layout as a par-72 championship course stretching more than 7,700 yards, with the property offering 36 holes across two Fazio designs.

The Bedminster property is not some municipal pitch-and-putt tucked behind a strip mall. It hosted the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open, along with LIV Golf tournaments in 2022 and 2023, and LIV is scheduled to return there later this week.

Trump’s precise career championship total depends on which count is being used. The president and affiliated social-media posts have described the Bedminster victory as bringing him to approximately 40 titles across his properties, while other reports have placed his claimed lifetime total at 43. Either way, he is not suffering from a shortage of trophies—or confidence.

OutKick described the result as an answer to months of speculation about Trump’s age and stamina, noting that shooting 70 on a championship layout would be a remarkable score for any 80-year-old golfer.

Critics responded by questioning the validity of championships conducted at clubs Trump owns. Skeptics have long challenged his reported golf scores and championship record, while Trump has maintained that his victories are legitimate. Golf figures including Jack Nicklaus and Ernie Els have acknowledged that Trump possesses genuine ability and remains an unusually strong player for his age.

Other coverage focused less on the golf and more on the trophy presentation, criticizing the size of the gathering and revisiting arguments about how frequently Trump plays while president.

MY TAKE:

This is why Donald Trump remains the undisputed heavyweight champion of getting inside his critics’ heads.

A normal politician would post something about sportsmanship, thank the grounds crew and congratulate the other players on a fine tournament.

Trump essentially said: I barely practice, I shot 70, I won two trophies, and the reason you lost is that I possess talent you do not.

Somewhere, an entire fact-checking department immediately canceled its weekend.

You can already picture the investigation. Was the grass cut to regulation height? Were the bunkers properly raked? Did the wind suspiciously change direction when Trump approached the tee? Were Russian golf balls involved?

And yes, the president owns the club. That is the detail his critics will clutch like a flotation device. But owning the course does not automatically put the ball in the hole. Plenty of people own kitchens and still manage to burn toast.

The golf establishment has acknowledged for years that Trump can play. Jack Nicklaus has called him a good golfer. Ernie Els has praised his ability to strike the ball. At 80, merely finishing 18 holes on a long championship course is more exercise than some cable-news pundits get in a fiscal quarter.

Was every putt measured with laboratory equipment? Probably not. Club tournaments are not the U.S. Open, and nobody is suggesting the USGA should engrave the score onto Mount Rushmore.

But Trump posted a 70, collected the hardware and celebrated exactly as everyone knew he would—by congratulating himself and insulting the competition in the same paragraph.

The critics can demand a recount. Trump already has the trophies.
