ROSIE SAYS SHE’S READY TO RETURN TO THE VIEW—BUT ABC HASN’T PICKED UP THE PHONE
Rosie O’Donnell says she’s ready to head back to The View. ABC, apparently, hasn’t quite said the same thing.
After reports spread Monday that O’Donnell was returning for the daytime show’s 30th season celebration, new reporting has poured a little cold water on the excitement.
Speaking on The Tangle with Kyle Ridley podcast, O’Donnell said she would happily return for the anniversary “in whatever way they want” her—”just as a guest”—adding that she believes the show plans to bring back former co-hosts for the milestone season.
“I’ll go on the 30th anniversary… in whatever way they want,” she said. “I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics.”
But shortly after those comments made headlines, O’Donnell’s own representative clarified that no formal invitation has actually been extended.
“There are no current plans,” the representative told People, explaining that while O’Donnell remains open to participating, ABC has not officially asked her to return.
That hasn’t stopped speculation. O’Donnell’s remarks fueled reports that the show’s producers intend to reunite many of its former co-hosts as part of the anniversary season, although ABC has yet to announce a guest lineup.
The possibility of O’Donnell returning has generated strong reactions because few personalities are more closely associated with The View’s transformation into a political talk show. She first joined the panel in 2006 and quickly became one of its most polarizing figures, memorably clashing with conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck over the Iraq War before leaving in 2007. She briefly returned in 2014 but departed again the following year after well-publicized tensions with Whoopi Goldberg and other behind-the-scenes conflicts.
In recent interviews, O’Donnell has said those relationships have improved over time, including with Goldberg. She has also reiterated that she has no interest in returning as a permanent co-host.
Instead, she envisions eventually launching a different kind of daytime program focused less on celebrity gossip and more on positive stories—though she has suggested she’d rather wait until Donald Trump is no longer dominating American politics.
O’Donnell moved to Ireland after Trump’s return to the White House and has remained one of the president’s most outspoken celebrity critics. Even while living overseas, she has continued commenting on U.S. politics through interviews, artwork and social media.
