Gentlemen, start your engines. Liberals, start your complaints.
President Donald Trump helped kick off what may have been the most unapologetically American sporting spectacle Washington has seen in quite a while Sunday, waving the green flag at the inaugural IndyCar Freedom 250 as race cars screamed around a 1.7-mile street circuit near the National Mall.
Melania Trump was alongside him. There were American flags. There was a bald eagle. Race cars were roaring past the Capitol and Washington Monument.

Somewhere, apparently, a Resistance emergency siren went off.
The Freedom 250 was created as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration, and Trump told Fox Sports’ Jamie Little that Roger Penske had spent years trying unsuccessfully to bring such a race to Washington.
“Roger said they’ve been trying to do it for 20 years,” Trump said. “I think he told me they’ve been down 211 times. But when he came to see Trump, it got done in about 15 minutes.”
Yes, he referred to himself as Trump. At this point, would we really want it any other way?

The race itself was won by Florida native Kyle Kirkwood, who drove to victory on the 147-lap course and later posed with a bald eagle because apparently someone decided the day’s patriotism meter hadn’t quite exploded yet.
But Sen. Adam Schiff wasn’t feeling quite so festive. “While you struggle with the cost of gas, Trump offers you the spectacle of an IndyCar race hoping you will not notice,” Schiff complained on X. “More taxpayer money spent on his self-aggrandizing distractions. And you get higher taxes and higher costs.”

There it is.
The cars weren’t the only things going around in circles Sunday. Trump attends a race celebrating America’s 250th birthday and waves the green flag? Somewhere, a Democrat must immediately explain why you should be angry about it.
MY QUICK TAKE
I love the contrast.
Donald Trump is standing beside Melania waving the green flag while IndyCars roar through the nation’s capital during America’s 250th anniversary celebration. And Adam Schiff sees all of that and thinks: This calls for a complaint.
Of course it does.
If Trump personally rescued a kitten from a burning building, Schiff would be standing outside demanding to know who paid for the ladder. My favorite part, though, may be Trump’s explanation for how the Freedom 250 finally happened.
Twenty years of trying. Hundreds of attempts. Trump gets involved? Fifteen minutes.
Is that precisely how it happened? I have no idea. But it’s so wonderfully Trump that I almost don’t want anybody checking.
