Trump tells Bret Baier to ‘straighten out his flunkies’ — Baier corrects him live on Fox

Trump blasted Fox News correspondent Jonathan Hunt for a “particularly inaccurate” report on Iran.
He told Bret Baier to “straighten out his flunkies, for a change!”
Baier responded live: “Jonathan Hunt’s not a flunky. He’s a great reporter.”

President Trump picked another fight with Fox News Thursday night.

This time, Bret Baier answered him on live television.

Trump was watching “Special Report” when Fox chief correspondent Jonathan Hunt reported on the stalled effort to bring the Iran war to an end.

“As regional allies work to broker a deal, President Trump says there are no new negotiations going on between the U.S. and Iran,” Baier said while introducing the report.

Hunt then reported that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent hoped to persuade G20 countries to increase economic pressure on Tehran while Gulf allies tried to convince Iran to make concessions.

Trump apparently didn’t like what he heard.

“Jonathan Hunt of FoxNews did a particularly inaccurate report on the Failing Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I don’t want to meet, they do. In fact, they are begging to make a deal.” Then came the shot at Baier: “Bret Baier should straighten out his flunkies, for a change!”

Baier put Trump’s post on the screen and responded before “Special Report” was over. “First of all, Jonathan Hunt’s not a flunky. He’s a great reporter,” Baier said.

Then he corrected Trump on what Fox had actually reported. “Second of all, Mr. President, we didn’t say you wanted to meet,” Baier said. “In fact, we played a soundbite you didn’t want to meet and there are no negotiations.”

Baier explained that Fox had reported Bessent was hoping to meet with G20 countries to increase pressure on Iran and that Gulf allies, including Qatar, were inside Tehran trying to win concessions. “That was what was said,” Baier concluded.

And the tape backs him up. Fox had actually aired Trump himself saying: “We’re not looking to meet or anything.”

So Trump accused Fox of inaccurately reporting that he wanted negotiations — after Fox aired him saying he didn’t want negotiations.

This also isn’t Baier’s first recent collision with Trump’s version of events in Iran. Earlier this month, Baier highlighted shipping data showing Strait of Hormuz traffic had slowed “to a trickle” despite Trump’s insistence that the United States had “total control” of the crucial waterway.

MY QUICK TAKE

I understand why President Trump despises inaccurate reporting. So do I.

But if you’re going to publicly unload on a reporter and call him Bret Baier’s “flunky,” you’d better make darn sure he actually said what you’re accusing him of saying.

In this case, Fox had the tape. And Bret Baier wasn’t shy about rolling it.
