- NBC’s Kristen Welker said Trump has had “some mixed results” with his 2026 endorsements, despite an overwhelmingly successful record in Republican primaries.
- Trump fired back on Truth Social with numbers showing a 98% House primary win rate and 100% Senate primary record, accusing Welker of “purposeful inaccuracy.”
- He went considerably further than fact-checking her, saying Welker would be reported to the FCC for “rebuke or punishment.”
Apparently there are two words guaranteed to get President Donald Trump’s attention before breakfast: “Mixed results.”
Kristen Welker was doing a Sunday morning live shot on NBC 4 Washington ahead of “Meet the Press” when she discussed Trump’s considerable influence over the midterms.
“He’s going to loom large over these midterms,” Welker said. “There’s no doubt about that.”
Then came the offending sentence. “He, of course, has endorsed a slate of candidates in the primaries. He’s had some mixed results.”
Trump was listening. And he had statistics.
The president erupted on Truth Social, calling Welker the “Unpopular ‘Hostess’” of what he dubbed “Meet the Fake Press,” before pointing to his victories in recent Republican primaries.
Trump’s attached figures put his overall 2026 primary endorsement record at 239 wins out of 243 races — 98.35%. His chart showed 215 of 219 House endorsements winning and a perfect 24-for-24 in Senate primaries.
That’s considerably better than “mixed” sounds.
Trump specifically highlighted the recent victories of Darline Graham in South Carolina and Mike Mazzei in Oklahoma, arguing that his endorsements helped propel candidates who had not been expected to win.
Then Trump took things several steps further. “How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves?” he wrote, accusing Welker of “purposeful inaccuracy.”
He said she would be reported to the FCC “for rebuke or punishment” and urged FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to take what Trump called a “Threat to our Country” seriously.
NBC promptly backed its star anchor. “Kristen is one of the best in the business and we stand by her,” an NBC spokesperson said in a statement reported by multiple outlets.
There is, however, a little BS hiding inside this numbers fight.
Trump’s batting average really is enormous — but Welker didn’t invent the losses. As The Daily BS reported earlier this month, Trump-backed candidates have suffered several notable defeats, including Mike Lindell in Minnesota, Andy Ogles in Tennessee, Cory Mills in Florida and gubernatorial candidates in several states. So “mixed” is technically defensible.
It’s also a rather interesting word to choose for a guy batting roughly .980.
MY QUICK TAKE
Kristen Welker found the one way to describe a 98% success rate that makes it sound like the Mets in September.
Trump has taken losses. We’ve reported them.
But if your kid brought home a 98 and the teacher wrote “mixed results” across the top, you’d probably want a conference too.
Maybe not with the FCC.
