BS BULLETIN:
- Gov. Ron DeSantis was interrupted while touting Florida’s fiscal record at a state Republican leadership forum.
- “Soros isn’t paying you enough because you’re not very good at this,” DeSantis fired back.
- The governor highlighted four consecutive budget reductions, lower debt, low per-capita taxes and a shrinking state workforce.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis turned a mid-speech interruption into a punchline Wednesday while discussing his administration’s fiscal record.
After a protester began heckling him, DeSantis paused and shot back: “Soros isn’t paying you enough because you’re not very good at this.”
🚨 JUST IN: Gov. Ron DeSantis was heckled mid-speech as he touted Florida cutting its budget four years running, more residents than New York, the nation’s lowest per-capita taxes, 52% of state debt paid off and a smaller government than the day he took office, firing back,… pic.twitter.com/DIuHCvNtHA

The governor then returned to his argument that Florida has continued growing while keeping its government and tax burden relatively small.
DeSantis said Florida has reduced its budget for four consecutive years despite surpassing New York in population. He also touted what he described as the country’s lowest per-capita state taxes, the elimination of approximately 52% of Florida’s state debt and a government workforce smaller than when he entered office in 2019.
Florida’s recently signed fiscal year 2026–27 budget totaled approximately $114.5 billion after DeSantis vetoed about $800 million in spending. His office says the state workforce has declined by approximately 1,300 positions since he became governor.
“The footprint of government is not growing in Florida,” DeSantis said during the budget signing. “If anything, it’s shrinking.”
MY QUICK TAKE
Heckling only works when the target loses control of the room. DeSantis kept it, turned the interruption into the punchline and went straight back to a fiscal record his critics would rather not discuss.
