Fetterman broke with the left. Now his former staffers are threatening to spill everything

A group of former John Fetterman campaign and Senate staffers launched an X account Friday promising to expose what they say is the real story behind the Pennsylvania Democrat.
The group says it will begin releasing stories and screenshots of internal communications Sept. 14, when the Senate returns.
The remarkable public revolt comes as Fetterman has increasingly alienated Democrats while earning praise from conservatives for breaking with his party, particularly in his unapologetic support for Israel.

Sen. John Fetterman has spent years making an unusual collection of political enemies. Now some of the people who once worked for him apparently want their turn.

A group calling itself “Former Fetterman Staffers” launched an X account Friday with an ominous promise: They’ve got stories, they’ve got screenshots, and they’re going public. “We’re a group of former campaign & Senate staffers for John Fetterman who are disgusted with what he’s become,” the account announced. The group called a new Wall Street Journal investigation into Fetterman’s conduct “just the tip of the iceberg” and declared: “It’s even worse than you thought.”

“Set your calendar for September 14th — the day the Senate is back in session — for our first drop.” They even added a dig at their former boss: Maybe they’ll wait until Sept. 15 because “he’ll skip Monday’s votes.”

This isn’t simply an anonymous account whose claims have yet to be connected to actual former employees.

The New York Times reported that two former Fetterman staffers confirmed the account is authentic and described it as a group effort. The Philadelphia Inquirer separately spoke with a former staffer with knowledge of the project who also said the group is legitimate.

What they eventually release remains another question.

The campaign follows a Wall Street Journal investigation portraying Fetterman as increasingly uninterested in many of the routine responsibilities of being a senator. Among other things, the Journal reported that Fetterman complained about repeatedly meeting with officials from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, who wanted to discuss vaccines and Medicaid cuts.

According to messages obtained by the Journal, Fetterman told an aide he was convinced the hospital officials “just want free trips to DC.”

The Journal also reported that Fetterman balked at attending the three-hour funeral of three Pennsylvania police officers killed in the line of duty, telling an aide the length might be a “nonstarter.” He ultimately didn’t attend. Those revelations have given Fetterman’s Democratic critics plenty of ammunition.

But there’s another political layer here. Fetterman has become one of the most unusual Democrats in Washington precisely because he has repeatedly refused to march in lockstep with his party.

He has been fiercely supportive of Israel, openly hostile toward the anti-Israel left, willing to appear regularly on conservative media and increasingly critical of progressive Democrats.

That has won him some unlikely Republican admirers — and considerable hostility from people who once considered him one of their own.

Twitchy argued that the coming staff revolt looks suspiciously like retaliation against a Democrat who stopped behaving as his former allies wanted.

That motivation hasn’t been officially established. But the timing certainly guarantees that whatever these former staffers release will arrive in the middle of an already bitter Democratic fight over Fetterman’s political future.

And there is something extraordinary about former Senate employees organizing an entire social-media operation devoted to publishing private communications with their former boss. Washington leaks. Washington gossips. Washington writes tell-all books. This bunch apparently scheduled a premiere date.

MY QUICK TAKE

Here’s where I have a problem.

If John Fetterman isn’t doing his job, show us. That’s legitimate.

But if this is about punishing Fetterman because he supports Israel, goes on Fox News and stopped taking orders from the progressive clubhouse, that’s something else entirely.

Rush spent decades explaining what happens when somebody strays from the liberal reservation. The harshest treatment often doesn’t come from conservatives. It comes from the people whose side you were supposed to remain on.

And now Fetterman’s former employees have created an X account, announced a countdown and promised to dump his private texts. They don’t sound like whistleblowers yet. They sound like exes who kept the screenshots.
