Georgetown students plan Charlie Kirk ‘lookalike contest’ for anniversary of his assassination

Students at Georgetown University are facing backlash over an apparent plan for a Charlie Kirk “lookalike contest” scheduled for the first anniversary of the conservative activist’s assassination.

The proposed Sept. 10 event surfaced on Fizz, an anonymous social-media app popular with college students, according to screenshots provided to Fox News by Georgetown’s Turning Point USA chapter.

One post advertising the event received more than 2,200 upvotes — a striking number at a university with roughly 6,000 undergraduates.

The announcement invited students to Copley Lawn to “speak the truth while the cost is high,” language Georgetown TPUSA members interpreted as mocking Kirk and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Other posts reportedly went further. One referred to Sept. 10 as “Kirkiversary,” while users also discussed an Erika Kirk lookalike contest and whether a campus singing group could perform a meme song about Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated on Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Georgetown’s TPUSA chapter responded by setting up a campus table with American flags and signs condemning the proposed event.

Chapter president Heidi Sui said there is a difference between political disagreement and celebrating someone’s death, calling the reaction on campus disturbing regardless of political affiliation.

Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet was even more pointed, saying a culture unable to simply mourn the dead has lost touch with “a basic sense of shared humanity.”

There is an important distinction: Georgetown says it has seen no actual campus activity connected to the posts, and neither the university nor, to its knowledge, any recognized student organization is organizing the event.

The school nevertheless condemned what appeared online.

“We take these anonymous posts seriously and condemn their language as deeply inconsistent with Georgetown University’s values,” a university spokesperson told Fox News, adding that officials are monitoring the situation.

The university also said that while its policies protect broad freedom of expression, “making light of a victim of violence” is contrary to Georgetown’s values.

MY QUICK TAKE:

Apparently assassinating Charlie Kirk wasn’t enough for some people. Now the anniversary itself is an occasion for jokes.

You don’t have to agree with a single thing Charlie ever said to understand how grotesque this is. In fact, that was Charlie’s whole point: argue with me.

He showed up on college campuses specifically to debate people who despised his politics. Celebrating or mocking the day somebody answered an argument with a bullet isn’t edgy. It’s a pretty chilling lesson in what happens when politics consumes basic human decency.
