John Fetterman turns up at Fox News retreat in Montana — because of course he did

The Pennsylvania Democrat’s latest Fox appearance comes as he continues to break publicly with members of his own party on several major issues.

Sen. John Fetterman’s increasingly unusual relationship with Fox News apparently extends beyond the television studio.

The Pennsylvania Democrat attended a Fox News corporate retreat in Montana last week, according to The Hill.

Fetterman joined Fox News host Dana Perino and former Democratic Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford Jr. for a panel discussion during the retreat, which was held at the luxury Paws Up Montana resort.

The senator’s office confirmed the appearance to The Hill and said Fetterman discussed his willingness to engage with people across the political spectrum.

“He was there to speak about bipartisanship and the importance of talking to people you disagree with,” Fetterman spokesperson Carrie Adams told the outlet.

Fox News declined to comment on what it described as an internal company event. Fetterman’s presence is notable because he hasn’t exactly been keeping his distance from the network.

He has become a frequent Fox News guest while repeatedly irritating fellow Democrats with positions on immigration, Israel, the government shutdown and President Donald Trump. Fetterman has also openly criticized his party’s political rhetoric and rejected pressure to treat every interaction with Trump or Republicans as an act of betrayal.

That willingness to cross political lines has earned him praise from some Republicans while increasingly putting him at odds with progressive Democrats.

The Montana appearance takes that relationship somewhere relatively unusual for a sitting Democratic senator: from appearing on Fox News to hanging out at the company’s private retreat. And apparently talking about why everybody should talk to each other.
