Taylor Swift flashed her wedding ring after Kelce’s TD — somehow that made people mad

Taylor Swift’s latest viral NFL moment required no political statement, no controversial lyrics and no celebrity feud.

Her husband scored a touchdown.

She was happy.

This apparently required a national discussion.

Swift was watching from a suite at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday when Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce scored his first touchdown of the 2026 season against the Indianapolis Colts.

NBC cameras caught Swift jumping up, celebrating and pointing emphatically at her wedding ring.

She appeared to yell: “That’s my husband!”

Swift and Kelce married in July after dating since 2023, so the moment carried a little extra newlywed enthusiasm.

The internet responded exactly as the internet does.

Plenty of people thought it was adorable.

Others called Swift obnoxious, cringeworthy or complained once again about television cameras focusing on her during Chiefs games.

Twitchy’s Mindy Connell noticed something more interesting in the reaction. “We live in a culture where a wife publicly trashing her husband is ‘relatable,’ but Taylor Swift enthusiastically cheering for hers is somehow cringe,” one social-media user observed in a post highlighted by the site.

That’s a bigger cultural question than whether anybody likes Taylor Swift.

For decades, popular entertainment has mined laughs from husbands and wives belittling each other — the incompetent husband, the nagging wife, the spouse who’s an obstacle rather than a partner.

Social media has given us the homemade version. Complaining about your husband can become content. Complaining about your wife can become a podcast.

Then one of the most famous women on Earth watches her husband succeed at the thing he’s spent his adult life doing, points proudly at the ring and basically screams, That’s my guy.

And that’s embarrassing?

Kelce has hardly been shy about celebrating Swift’s career either. He’s attended her concerts, publicly praised her accomplishments and even appeared onstage during her Eras Tour.

Maybe neither one is performing some profound act of cultural rebellion. Maybe they’re simply two newlyweds who seem extraordinarily proud of each other.

Which shouldn’t be news. The fact that it somehow became controversial might be.

MY QUICK TAKE

I’m going to risk my standing with the sophisticated cultural critics here: I like it.

Not because she’s Taylor Swift. Not because he’s Travis Kelce. And certainly not because America needed another television shot of the luxury box at Arrowhead.

I like the message hiding inside that silly little moment. That’s my husband.

Three words. Pride. Possession in the good old-fashioned romantic sense. No ironic detachment. No public embarrassment about being crazy about the person you married.

We’ve spent decades laughing at sitcom dads who couldn’t operate a dishwasher and sitcom wives who regarded their husbands as an unfortunate household expense. Now social media lets everybody produce the same show from home.

Then Taylor Swift points at her wedding ring like she just won the Super Bowl herself, and some people decide that’s embarrassing.

Maybe we’ve got the embarrassing part backward. Marriage is having a rough enough century without married people pretending they’re too cool to be thrilled by each other.

Let the woman wave the ring.
