Jay-Z rape accuser takes it all back: ‘I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter’

The woman who accused Jay-Z of raping her when she was 13 has now delivered about as complete a reversal as possible.

She says it didn’t happen. And she says she’s never even met him.

The woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, made the stunning statements in a sworn declaration filed this week in connection with Jay-Z’s ongoing legal battle against attorney Tony Buzbee.

Jay-Z’s real name is Shawn Carter.

Doe had previously alleged that Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Now she says: “Mr. Carter did not rape or assault me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter.”

She also says there was “no truth” to her allegations against the rapper.

The original accusation generated enormous headlines when it surfaced in late 2024. Carter vehemently denied it from the beginning. The woman’s lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in February 2025, meaning it could not be refiled.

Carter then went on offense. He sued Buzbee and others, alleging malicious prosecution, abuse of process, civil conspiracy, and defamation arising from the accusations. Buzbee has denied wrongdoing and disputed Carter’s characterization of how the original allegations were developed and pursued.

The woman’s new declaration is now part of that legal fight.

According to Reuters, she says in the declaration that she independently came to believe Carter had assaulted her after seeing him photographed with Combs and later contacted Buzbee’s law firm. She says she was not pressured by Buzbee or his firm to accuse Carter. That distinction could become important as Carter continues pursuing his claims against the attorney.

But for Jay-Z, the central allegation that once produced headlines around the world has now been repudiated by the person who made it.
