DHS lawyer answers NFL’s border-video demand with Bugs Bunny’s ‘No’

BS BULLETIN:

The NFL asked DHS to remove a border-security video featuring Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins’ football highlights.
Dawkins said he did not give permission for his name, image or likeness to be used.
DHS defended its message, while its general counsel replied to a report about the takedown request with a Bugs Bunny meme saying “No.”

The NFL wants its football footage out of a Department of Homeland Security border post. DHS appears in no hurry to call an audible.

The department posted a 39-second video Sunday after an account claimed a large migrant caravan was headed toward the southern border. It opens with former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins saying, “The time has come,” then cuts to his hardest hits. DHS captioned it, “Our time has come.” The agency says Border Patrol is tracking a group that departed Honduras on September 20.

“The league has requested the DHS take down the video,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Monday. Dawkins separately wrote that he had “respectfully not given permission” for its use of his name, image and likeness.

DHS defended the border message with another football line: “DHS is playing lockdown defense at the border. We will use every Weapon at our disposal, from A to X, to keep Americans safe.” The wording nods to Dawkins’ nickname, “Weapon X.” DHS general counsel James Percival was less wordy, responding to a report of the NFL’s request with a Bugs Bunny image that said “No.”

The video remained online Tuesday morning, according to subsequent reporting. Neither the NFL’s request nor Dawkins’ objection establishes that a court has ruled on the footage’s use.
